The Sun Dragon Monks of Corellan Larethian

Approaching unseen,
Silently shadowed,
From crevice to crevice,
Talking unheard,
There Be Dragons Here
- Sun Dragon Chant

Often working alone or in small groups, these elven disciples of the dragon are rarely seen or heard about, yet their appearance often foreshadows great events.

Only rarest of elves are gifted with the mental acuity and martial focus to allow them to complete the training as a Lawful Monk. Even rarer are those able to make the leap from the strict regimentation of the normal Monk and seek a career as a "Sun Dragon Monk." This level of commitment requires a clear focus, as the nature of most elves is chaotic to the core, as well as powerful connections within the elven world and most of all among the Sun Monk Brotherhood themselves.

To aid in their eternal journey towards a perfect self, the "Sun Dragons Monks" learn many disciplines. Sun Dragon Monks develop their 'empty hand' fighting style along different lines from traditional Monks. Moving away from the more spiritual disciplines that define their brother Monks, and working toward perfection in the image of their Master, Gau Shur.
Background: The Ancient Gold Dragon Gau Shur, long associated with the elven race, is responsible for the creation of these Champions of Law. Wise as well as brilliant, the dragon saw an opportunity to not only further the case for Law within these Chaotic people, but to provide them another layer of protection.

Seeing the Monks of the Sun, Corellan Larethians order, as the most likely candidates for his ideal, he approached the orders seniors personally.

Initially surprised and slightly hostile towards the dragon, they were soon convinced by his skilled tongue and logical mind. They could not release the devotees of the order into the dragons care, not without the express permission of their Patron, Corellan Larethian, and so had to turn Gaur Shur down.

This would have seemed an insurmountable obstacle for most creatures, for to commune with a deity is not something just anyone can do. But Gua Shur was not just anyone, he was an Ancient Gold Dragon, patron of the elves, and while arrogant had reason to be.

Such was the relationship the dragon had developed with the elves, that when he sought communion with the deity he found it.

Lawful elves are particularly unusual in Elven communities, and though often pitied are still precious to their people and their deity. Even so the deity consented, Gau Shur's reasons seeming too powerful and compelling even for a deity to resist.

This consent came with two simple provisos:
The order still be dedicated to himself.
That Gau Shur not deplete the numbers of remaining monks to any great extent.

Gau Shur agreed, and thus were the seeds of the Sun Dragon Monks sown.

Class Features
All of the following are class features of the Sun Dragon Monks
Weapon and Armour Proficiency: A Sun Dragon Monks is proficient with no additional types of weapons, or armour.
Sun Monk Prestige Class: Like the Core Class, "The Sun Monks of Corellan Larethian, Wisdom-based abilities will be determined by Intelligence, instead.

Monk Abilities (+1 to Monk Level) : Sun Dragon Monk levels stack with monk levels for determining unarmed attack damage, improved AC adjustment, unarmored speed and Flurry of Blows advancement.

Arcane Instruction (Su): At 1st level, The Sun Dragon Monk can communicate telepathically with The Ancient Gold Dragon Gau Shur at any distance. When she remains perfectly still, makes a Concentration DC of 20 and concentrates for one full round, she can add +5 to any Knowledge skill roll. She can make no other actions during this round, and if she is attacked, she must make a concentration check exactly as if she were a spellcaster, and lose the contact if she fails. This action provokes an Attack of Opportunity.

At 5th Level, the "Arcane Instruction" ability to access Gau Shur's great pool of knowledge increases to +10.

Inner Radiance (Ex): At 2nd Level, the Sun Dragon Monk gains immunity to fear. (Both spells and effects.)
Dance of the Moon (Ex) : -At 3rd level, the Monk gains a +5 bonus to her Jump, Tumble and Balance skills and becomes so certain in their use that she can use them reliably even under adverse conditions. At 6th level, this ability increases to +10.

Upon gaining this ability, she gains the ability to "take 10" in "Jump," "Tumble" and "Balance." When making skill checks with these skills, she may take 10 even if stress and distractions would normally prevent her from doing so.
Dragon Whips Her Tail (Ex): -At 4th level, a monk can choose to channel all of her Ki into a single strike that will cripple opponents, weakening and hampering them. An opponent damaged by a "Dragon Whips Her Tail" attack also takes 2 points of Strength damage. Ability points lost to damage return on their own at the rate of 1 point per day for each damaged ability. (With special credit going to Bruce Lee, G-d rest his soul)

Reaching for the Pearl (Ex): At 5th level, the monk gains Blindsense 30 ft.

Improved Evasion (Ex): At 7th level, a Sun Dragon Monk's evasion ability improves. She still takes no damage on a successful Reflex saving throw against attacks, but henceforth she takes only half damage on a failed save. A helpless monk does not gain the benefit of improved evasion.

Crane Leap (Ex): At 8th level, a Sun Dragon Monk can focus her Ki into flight. She may now fly at a speed equal to her normal land speed, with good maneuverability.

Dragon Wins the Pearl: (Ex) At 9th level, a Sun Dragon Monk gains Blindsense 60 ft.

Aura of the Sun Dragon (Ex): At 10th Level a Sun Dragon Monk can unsettle foes with her mere presence. The ability takes effect automatically whenever the Sun Dragon Monk attacks, charges, or flies overhead. Creatures within a radius of 30 feet x the Sun Dragon Monk's Prestige Class Level divided by 5 are subject to the effect if they have fewer total levels than the Sun Dragon Monk. A potentially affected creature that succeeds on a Will save (DC 10 + 1/2 total levels + Sun Dragon Monk's Cha modifier) remains immune to that Sun Dragon Monk's frightful presence for 24 hours. On a failure, creatures with 4 or less HD become panicked for 4d6 rounds and those with 5 or more HD become shaken for 4d6 rounds. Dragons ignore the frightful presence of the Sun Dragon Monks.

Multiclassed Sun Monk:
Sun Monks of Corellan Larethian may multiclass only with the permission of their Master, Gau Shur.
Ex-Monks.

A monk who becomes nonlawful cannot gain new levels as a monk but retains all monk abilities.

A Monk who becomes Evil incurs the enmity of Gau Shur. One may expect that Gau Shur would not allow the error in judgement that allowed this monk to be trained to go uncorrected. The window that a Sun Dragon Monk opens to Gau Shur makes a useful conduit for this correction.

Tiny note. This belongs in house rules.

This classes prerequisites allow a rogue to join. Is that intentional? Also the requirements should probably all be expressed in ranks. You have a couple expressed as modifiers.

"Dragon Whips Her Tail." Is there some requirement to do this attack or does it apply to every attack? It is too good if it applies to all attacks. Possibly it should take a use of a stunning attack to use (which restricts it to once a round).

"Crane Leap" This ability makes all the jump skil they have spent and the jump bonuses from the class become useless because they can fly. Also, it seems a bit off flavor to have monks able to soar hundreds of feet in the air for hours at a time. If you want the Wuja flavor, it might be better to allow them to jump and stand on insubstantial or vertical objets or similar.

"Aura of the Sun Dragon" is a nice ability, however it will rarely apply. It requires the opponent to have less levels or HD than the monk. However most foes that they will face have more HD/levels, as they almost all have HD much greater than their CR.

However this does look like a promising PrC

On the face of it, this looks like an interesting and not too unbalanced PrC. However, it should be in the House Rules forums. You might want to have Unarmed Strike, ki strike, and/or some other monk class features as prerequisites.

Good points, all. I will work them into the final draft.

Also, I didn't realize that PrC's were posted in the House Rules section. If someone wants to move the thread there, please do.
