Responsibility is an important quality that everyone should posess, not just players.

I suppose experience does not maketh the player. But still, I believe it is good to start new players as low-level characters so they can gain experience.

Responsibility is a good skill, but I wouldn't go so far to expect everyone to have it. I imagine moist of us have friends that don't.

As for experience, not all games are level based or start players off weak. Plus soime people are more comforitible playing at higher level or more powerful character, even people with little gaming experience.

THe advice in the story is okay, but it is not concrete wisdom that always applies.

Absolutely. I wrote this first for a friend of mine trying out DMing for the first time. (well, the second time. The first time went badly. That's why I wrote this)

Good but what about where the GM goes to play in a group where other players are the problem?

What about playing in an environment that is not conductive to active gaming? I say active gaming because there are people who enjoy getting up, watching TV, flipping on anime ect.. while playing D&D in the background.

Lots of stuff could be added.

Of course I'd like to see the one whee the player wants to become a better player...

I greatly enjoyed reading that. I think that the most important thing to remember is that you are never done learning to be a good GM. That's one big reason why I read these boards and it is a rare visit when I don't see some tidbit that would be wise to incorporate into my GMing style.

"When well-disciplined practitioners hear Tao, they practice it diligently.
Average-disciplined practitioners hear Tao, they practice it now and then.
Less-disciplined practitioners hear Tao, they laugh out loud; if there's no laugher, it's probably not true Tao."

Good job, Roastslinky. I'll be glad to credit you, but It'll sure sound less sage-like if I'm attributing it to your screen name. :D
