The Tearing of the Veil

Lon Deslo

Lon circles the perimeter of the camp heading to the side opposite the assault, and identifies an isolated Thrane. He'll do. As the sound of wailing drifts across the beach, he emerges from cover and attempts to possess the man.

JD waits for general melee

I'll wait for general melee to break out before sending death in from the air...(i.e. a crossbow bolt shot into the main group of Thranes etc.). Guess it might have been good to have set a rally point if we got separated, something like that line of trees might have been good.... ;) Also would think a ghost could really freak out the horses......thus cutting down the oppositions mobility (I assume they are largely not on the horses now and the horses are set in a given area as they are setting up a camp.....)

Attack!

The Thranish soldiers peacefully go about setting up their morning camp, unaware of the monsters in the hills moving against them. Tibalt slips amongst them unseen and picks his target (S5). The victim is a very young man, probably no older than 16, who clucks softly to his horse as he feeds it a bit of apple. Tibalt hardly has time to note the strangeness of the sensation of merging whatever the substance of his body ihas become with that of the boy before the young soldier is mentally struggling against him. His struggle is brief and Tibalt very quickly subdues him and assumes control.

Meanwhile, Carmilla creeps invisibly a short distance and sets up her magical trap. One of the soldiers (M6), already a short distance from his compatriots, notices the wailing and cautiously investigates. However, he has hardly moved ten feet before Lon Deslo springs upon him. Again, the struggle is brief, but before he succumbs to the ghost’s will some of the others take notice that something unusual is going on and shout out an alarm.

Here’s what things look like at the start. I guesstimated everyone’s starting positions.
(Removed to preserve bandwidth - go here if you want to see it)
H# = Horse (no rider)
M# = Mounted soldier
S = Unmounted Soldier
CP = Captain
CR = Cardinal (presumed position)

AG = Alton Grefe
AN = Andrinor
CA = Carmilla
HK = Halden Kraal
JD = James Dukar
LD = Lon Deslo
TG = Tibalt Graf

This is the surprise round – Carmilla, Lon, and Tibalt have already acted. If anyone else wishes to do anything, go ahead and post your action. Everyone can also go ahead and post your round one actions. Here is the initiative order:
Lon Deslo
Andrinor
Halden Krall
James Dukar

Cardinal
Carmilla
Tibalt Graf

Captain
Warriors

Alton Grefe

Some Combat conventions: If you move, please refer to grid coordinates. If you attack, go ahead and include a damage roll, unless you rolled so ridiculously low that it’s obvious you missed. See my previous post on die rolls. In most combat situations, I will wait until everyone has posted their actions each round, then sort it all out in an end of round summary. This usually works pretty well.

JD rains death from the air....

I will shoot M2 as soon as the alarm begins. http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=503712 (I assumed -2 for range as assumed more than 110' out as not sure of scale of your map, if within 110' then add two to my rolls to hit) and am shooting twice using my ability for an additional -2 (net +5 for attack if there is bonus for surprise did not add one) and if he goes down move to M1 (if not shoot M2 again) with this roll http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=503723. If either of them still up will fire at them next round unitil down as they are mounted. Also had taken humans as my natural ememy, uncertain how that applies to ranged combat.....

Halden Kraal

I will take a double move to move back to Q51 then move to G51, there to await the Thranes investigating the Ghost sound. In the next round if the thranes investigate I will shoot at the first soldier that comes to the top of the rise.1d20+2=14 for 1d8=6 points of damage. If the Thranes do not investigate in the next round I will wait until the next round to advance down towards the beach to E41 unless there is a Thrane closer than that I can attack.

Thranes, horses and owls! Oh my! (Grefe)

I'm assuming that the squares on the map are 5' x 5' ("Whenever possible, use units of 5 feet for movement and position." -PH, p.130). Grefe's normal move is 30', in the snow it is 20'.

Empty handed, Grefe heads north at a flat-out run (20'x4=80', 80'/5'=16 squares), turning west at the north edge of the ridge. He crests the ridge (end Surprise round at Grid A51) and plows down the western slope (end of Round 1 at A35).

No breathing means no panting. I'll have to remember that. I won't even be out of breathe to cast my spells.
I wonder how long I can run at this pace? Still no view of the Cardinal. At this rate I will be able to hit him with my spittle by the time I am able to see inside his shelter.
Damn! I forgot to cast
Resistance on myself. Fool and idiot! You are dead, not invulnerable. You may no longer need to breathe, but take a breathe before charging into battle. Even if you are following others.

Assuming that he keeps moving west, at which square will Grefe have a line of site on the cardinal?
When he gets there will Grefe need to succeed at a Spot skill check to see the cardinal in his shelter?

Lon Deslo

Lon spends round 1 riding slowly back towards s2, pulling up short in g11. Ignoring the arrows whizzing overhead, he shakes his head as if confusion, and passively sways back and forth in the saddle in response to the horse's gait.

Andrinor moves to cover JD from any advancing riders. He fully runs, and stops at X41 to ready a charge (or to engage a rider if already near that spot). If alone there, he slaps his sword against the front of his shield in a taunting fashion and screams,

"None survive the Bitter Blades! None survive!"
