The Tearing of the Veil

Andrinor

I think it's time now. There is my opening!

Andrinor makes a beeline sprint intending to pass by S4 and get on a horse. If S4 sits there, he ignores him. His targets are the horses just South(?) of S14. If they are running, he will try to catch one as they come to him. If not, he will run up to one and grab it. Whenever he gets to a horse, he will pass and mount on his left side so as to use the horse to block arrows from the camp. If unchallenged, he will sheathe his sword and mount. This also gives Carmilla some tracks to follow in unseen.

This all changes if anyone advances far enough to challenge him and intercept his mission. Then he will engage them, always trying to use them as a shield against the camp site.

Tibalt, in the form of the young soldier, turns to the fellow accosting him, reaches up and peels his own face off, revealing a masque of twitching muscle and blood, "We're all damned here. You'll never see home." To observers much farther away it looks as if he has just passed his hands over his face, and said a few things.

Tibalt has cast a Scare spell on the soldier near him, and the next nearest soldier. The saving throw is 10+2(lvl)+3(int)+1(specialized) = 16. If they fail, they run for 6 rounds; if they save, they're shaken for 1 round.

That horn! My cohorts need me on the beach more than skulking about here. Blast!

Instead of waiting for the riders to advance, I will run to G27, drop my crossbow and draw my sword, and say,

Flee now Thranish dogs! Or face a bitter end!

Are our alignments altered by being undead?

No, your alignment at the moment is the same as it was in life. That's not to say that some people might not change, depending upon their actions after death...

Update tomorrow (we'll give Grefe a bit longer to check in before moving on...)

Round 2 - Alton Grefe

Sorry guys. I guess I am having trouble with the schedule. :\

My question: Is concentration necessary to initially turn undead? If a spell caster takes damage before their action can they then concentrate on casting a spell, or turning undead, later that round?

Grefe stops and casts Glitterdust; centering the spread on the mounted soldier approaching him (location C28, #S18?). (Both rider and mount must make a Save verses Will or be blinded for 5 rounds.)

Beach Encounter - Round 2

Carmilla makes her way down the hill. The snow, reaching to the tops of her calves, slows her down a bit. Two of the soldiers (S6 & S7) advance cautiously forward and fire at the. One of the arrows finds its mark but fails to pierce her unliving flesh.

Lon catches his target completely by surprise. He whispers something that sounds like "Daffodils" before the light goes out of his eyes and he slide out of his saddle. A couple of the others nearby take notice. One (S3) shouts, "Hey there, what'ye think you're doing?" and rashly attempts to pull Lon out of his saddle. He gets a sword point in his shoulder for his trouble. (Attempting to grapple an armed opponent provokes an Attack of Opportunity. I went ahead and rolled for Lon and scored a hit for 3 hp damage.) The other soldier (S12) kneels in the snow to check on his downed comrade.

James Dukar continues his rain of arrows. The captain is thrown back a couple feet when one well-placed shaft sinks deeply into his shoulder. The leader barely pauses for breath as jerks it free and continues to shout orders. "Hold the line, you lot! Let the horses go! Winnis, Taven, for the love of the Flame, take down that sniper!" In the chaos, its difficult to tell if anyone's actually listening to him. One of the soldiers nearest him is gathering up some of the horses Tibalt set free and seems to be set on forcing them on the archers that are attempting to pincushion Camilla.

Andrinor charges forward, but, like Camilla, he is slowed by the heavy drifts. However, the horse are obligingly coming almost straight to him. (As a move action you can catch one next turn, but you will need to make a Handle Animal check to do so.)

Tibalt's dweomer is partially effective. The mounted soldier closest to him nearly drops from his saddle in panic before spurring his mount to maximum speed. He charges up the beach, hysterically screaming "We're all going to die! We're all going to die!" The other shakes his head in horrified disbelief, but stands his ground.

Halden Kraal seems to skim over the top of the snow as he charges down the hill. One of the soldiers (S2), who had been speeding to investigate the baby in distress, slows up his advance, instead unslinging a spear and warily awaiting the Risen monk.

Before Alton Grefe can cast his spell, the mounted warrior is upon him. The soldier brings his sword down in a deadly arc meant to remove the sorcerer's head, but Alton is able to back up far enough that the steel merely cuts through air. The horseman continues to gallop past and Alton casts his spell on his retreating back. It is not apparent at the moment whether the glitterdust had any effect.

The cardinal has yet to come out of his tent.

Grefe: If you take damage while casting a spell, you need to make a Concentration check not to lose the spell. This is different from taking damage from someone who moves before or after you in the same round. Generally, taking damage while casting a spell is only possible if:
1) the spell takes 1 full round or longer to cast (most simply take one standard action)
2) an opponent has readied an action to attack you while casting a spell
3) You are hit by a successful attack of opportunity provoked by casting the spell
or 4) are taking continual damage for some reason, like being on fire.

Actually, I'm a little uncertain of 3), but that's the ruling I'm going with unless a greater rules guru than I can cite something to the contrary.

In the specific instance of this past round, even if the soldier had hit you, you would not have had to make a concentration check because he went before you in the round and his attack occurred before you cast your spell.

Don't sweat the slow post - I forgot that you went last in the round, so I could have done everyone else's stuff anyway.

Turning undead works is considered an attack. It does not require extraordinary concentration and doe not provoke attacks of opportunity.

*****

I'm likely to be a bit slow posting myself for the duration of this combat. Since updating the map requires moving something like 40 elements around each round, it takes a bigger chunk of time than I had originally anticipated. I'll do my best to speed the process along and I imagine things will speed up alot once everyone's in melee range. Thanks, everyone, for your patience.

I will continue to fire on the CP for two shots 1d20+5=10, missed, 1d20+5=21, 1d8+4=12 damage (got the other shoulder). Show him to stay in the open....next volley is in the head...... :]

Andrinor

The brutish fighter seems to charge two oncomming horses...

I will attempt to grab a horse after putting my sword away. I am spending an action point to make sure I succeed.

1d20+1d6 [9,3] = (12) http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=517288

If I succeed, I mount the horse and swing towards the archer line after drawing my sword. Charge S7 at T19. If I fail the skill check and have the reins in hand, I will try again next round to mount. If I lose the horse, I will charge the Captain next round. I have an 8 in the Ride skill, if that helps.
