The Temple of Elemental Evil: GM:DimDarknight

The gnome stands up and does a few quick knee bends to loosen his joints. He places his hand under his white bearded chin and quickly turns his head, popping his neck.
“If you are heading to Hommlet, perchance might you allow me to accompany you?”

“The name is Belrin Beck and though my days as an adventurer are past, I can still swing a sword should trouble meet us.” He throws back his cloak; clasps hold it in place at his shoulders. Belrin wears a beautifully crafted suit of silver studded, blackened leather armor, a small longsword is held in a snake-skin scabbard at his hip. Two bags rest at his feet.

He takes a ladle and slowly sips the water; his eyes staring at the assembly, he awaits some response.

Various Knowledge checks:
Egoz: Belrin Beck was a member of a group known as the Broken Hand. They supposedly killed some snake-based cult that was causing trouble in Verbobonc about 50 years ago.
Lysienne: Belrin Beck was the name of a semi-famous illusionist about 50 years ago. He was a member of a group known as the Broken Hand. They supposedly killed some snake-based cult that was causing trouble in Verbobonc about 50 years ago.
Halbrom: Belrin Beck was the name of a semi-famous illusionist about 50 years ago. He was a member of a group known as the Broken Hand. They supposedly killed some snake-based cult that was causing trouble in Verbobonc about 50 years ago. Beck left the material plane soon after the cult’s defeat. What he has been doing for the last half a century is relatively unknown and most thought he died.

Halbrom Starforge, Male Dwarf Wizard

“Well met Belrin. I’m sure we would all be honoured to have a member of the Broken Hand accompany us to Hommlet,” Halbrom says, looking pointedly at Tem, “Hmm, you definitely seem a little healthier than when I last heard your name spoken though, I guess the rumours of your demise aren’t true after all...”

“He sure doesn’t look dead,” Darkwing remarks.

"OK, first off... who are you?" says Lenwë as he looks at and gestures toward the human in the armor with the chain slung over his shoulder. He then looks to the dwarf and asks, "Secondly, what is the Broken Hand?"

Lenwë finally turns back to the gnome and responds, "And lastly, I am open to travelling with anyone. Believe me I am sure I have travelled with worse than this group," he says with a grin. "And we shall certainly have luck on our side being as we have come together in a setting such as this. Surely Olidimmara shall smile upon us."

Halbrom Starforge, Male Dwarf Wizard

“Well Lenwë, the Broken Hand were an adventuring group, and around 50 years ago they defeated some snake-based cult that was causing trouble in Verbobonc,” Halbrom replies.

"Do you have any information on this snake-based cult Lysi?" the elf asks his knowledgable friend. "Or maybe you could tell us a little bit about it Belrin. That and what it is that has brought you back here to the Hommlet area."

Halbrom Starforge, Male Dwarf Wizard

“I don’t know exactly, it was just rumoured that Belrin died at some point after he left the Broken Hand. Though it seems it may have been just that, a rumour, which probably started because no-one had seen him for such a long time,” Halbrom replies thoughtfully.

Turning back to Belrin he says, “Excuse me Belrin, that was rude, speaking about you as if you’re not right here...”

Beck squints an eye as he takes a serious tone, “The Broken Hand was a bunch drunken fools that accidentally did a few things right every now and again.”

“Demise? Lords and ladies, me…dead?”. A mischievous grin crosses his face just before he tilts back his head to down the last of the water.

He suddenly drops the ladle and coughs up a mouthful of water, Fifty years ago? The gnome seems riddled with confusion as he begins quietly mumbling something about planar dynamics and time fluxes while doing some basic addition with his fingers. He stops almost as abruptly as he started, “Oh well. Done is done.”

"Well, that's kind of spooky. Didn't die, though, did you?" Tem makes a goofy grin at Belrin. "Anyone that can make like 'e's gone an' then come back is more 'an welcome in my book." It's not clear if this is because Tem's slightly afraid of Belrin or because he actually means it. Probably some of both.

Halbrom Starforge, Male Dwarf Wizard

“It is often the same with many adventuring groups, but it matters not, at least they did some good and there is pride to be taken in that...even if it’s not exactly how you remember it,” Halbrom chuckles. “Ah, lost in the variant times of the planes, that would definitely explain the rumours with you just vanishing like that Belrin.”
