The Tielfling and The Gnome: On the Set of 4th edition

Ok, that was awesome. Wizards needs to keep putting out these videos, like, forever.

The Gnome was hilarious. It does seem that they are taking Gnomes in a more fey direction, though. I suppose if Eladrin are the nobles of the Feywild, living in stone cities and honing arcane powers, gnomes could become more of the morally ambigious, wild trickster type of fey, hiding out in holes in the ground and playing with anything nearby that arouses their curiosity. It's about as far as you can get from the scientist gnome, but it's a workable archtype where their small size is probably a plus.

I'm guessing we'll continue to see Gnomes tied to the Bard class. The heavier focus on enchantment and illusion would work well for a wild fey sort of gnome.

Ugh. The dialogue and voice acting was pretty abysmal.

Glad they decided on a design niche for gnomes, however:
joke.

He even looks a little like invader zim. Except... not funny.

The tiefling's voice made me cringe a bit, but I thought the gnome's voice and lines were hilarious.

Gnome: I'm a monster! Rrrrrar!
Do you have a lair? I have a lair!

Or a potential Illusionist mage thing...

True, but the only upcoming class we know about with an illusion focus is the bard. I'm betting the 4th edition Bard kills the Beguiler and takes his stuff, personally.

I think that was pretty not-funny and mean on WotC's part. It was deliberately antagonistic towards Gnomes, even though an established part of their customer/ player base likes Gnomes. I mean, it's one thing to make the business decision to not include them in the PHB, but why kick them while they're down?

I know. The gnome totally sold that. :D

I kept wanting him to shut up, hoping the tiefling would give us some game info, but the gnome just kept...pulling...me back in. DAW.

They talked about reducing the wizard's illusion capabilities to make room for a specialist class. I don't think they were talking about the bard. I think they're taking bard in a different direction, with the leader role and a possible fey connection.

Regarding the video: I liked the tiefling, even though the horns still bug me. The gnome was amusing, but a lot closer to how I've always envisioned goblins.
