The Timer stopped and the message was...

Hey guys, sorry about the site being down, but I can't say it's totally unexpected given the announcement. Our tech folks are working on trying to get it resolved.

D&D Insider provides its members with immediate access to Dragon Magazine and Dungeon Magazine

I sometimes wonder if the people at WotC are sitting around saying, "What can we say next specifically to piss off The Gneech?"

NO it DOESN'T provide that because you people KILLED Dragon Magazine and Dungeon Magazine! Putting up a $120/year subscription blog and CALLING it "Dragon Magazine and Dungeon Magazine" is frankly insulting!

If it ain't in print, it ain't a magazine. If it don't come to my house, it's not a subscription.

Mike,
We know it isn't your's or Scott's fault about the site going down. Most of us fault your Marketing not talking to your Tech guys properly.

And since you are glancing at this thread, many have expressed a worry over the new Terms of Service with Gleemax. You might want to look into.

Um, you're kidding, right?

So, you're saying it was expected that your site would go down when you made the announcement? You didn't think it was worthwhile to scale your servers so it could handle it? You're announcing an online initiative, but couldn't be bothered to show that you can actually handle a burst in online traffic? Kudos for more top notch trust building there, guys.

Wow. Of all the inane things I've read yesterday/today, that has to be at the very top of the list.

Traffic too high last night for me to post... :(

I'm here at ENWorld today because last night (Friday, Eastern Time) was pointless. ENWorld wouldn't load faster than 5 minutes per click of the mouse - if at all - and Wizards was down from about 6:00pm and is still down this morning!

This whole 4E development is actually a bit of a shock to me and I even took off the day to try to make sense of what is happening to my hobby! :( So I'm gonna be doing a lot of post reading and may do some opining as a means to, um, "adjust" to the news...

"humph", said the flumph :\

Yeah, and just think, WE'LL BE PAYING FOR "Service Unavailable"

:(

If the hit after the announcement is indicative of the amount of traffic WotC have to handle when the DI goes live, WotC have a gargantuan success on their hands.

But I don't think that'll happen. If the amount of simultaneous load on the DI is even 10% of the load that hit that hit WotC after the countdown, I'd be very, very surprised.

So I'm not that worried. I still think it's an embarrassment to WotC, but nothing more than that.

My thoughts exactly. If they knew this was going to happen they should have prepared for it. Hasbro is a huge company, they couldn't git more capacity for their on-line announcement when their huge marketing push for 4e is supposed to be all the things you can now get and do on-line.

This does not make me comfortable with spending $9.95/month and not having access to it because too many people are trying to access it at the same time. I would rather pay 15.98 + tax for a portion of what the DI is supposed to offer because once I pay that I would have access to it anytime I want- even when for some unknown reason the electricity is out (like is was the other day during a pleasent sunny though HOT day).
