The Top Five Underrated Prestige Classes

*shrug* You just sound rather creative with stuff you do

Well, thanks. :)

so I figured you made your own adventures? :)

About 95% of the time, yes, I make my own. Most modules don't translate well to a solo game, unless of course I run 3 ncps with the single player, which I'd rather not do. Most of the time, it's easier for me to just make it all up. I just wish I wrote it all down, then I might have something to sell. :D

The way CoSQ sounds, I have to wonder how in the world you're going to do it for a Solo Ranger (That you hate; ha! I knew we could relate this back to the thread :) ).

1) The Arcane Archer. A lot of posters seem to feel that any other archer with access to Greater Magic Weapon is pretty much just as good, and so find the Arcane Archer weak. It seems quite well-balanced to me, though, and I think those magic arrows are a huge advantage, even over Greater Magic Weapon.

Well, with rapid shot and possibly haste, getting 4-6 arrows per round, you run through those 50 arrows pretty quickly. Unless your party members are willing to pour spell slots into supporting you, you'll run out of magic arrows pretty quick. That is why AA is not weak. If AA seems weak, you are in a weak campaign. The more high-end the campaign's combat, the more useful the AA is.

Dwarven Defender.

Worst part about the DD is the fact that he can't move during his stance. So:

Give him a bow.

A DD with all of the bow feats and a happy cleric with GMW is pretty neat. Not overpowering, but it sure is fun. Lot's of hps, AC, DR, and BAB = a neato archer.

Plus, it's fun for a dwarf to be the best archer in the land. ;)

Actually, he's not solo. I started him off in a full party of 4, which later expanded to five. It was the very first game I ever ran, and it was back in the days of 2nd edition. The party consisted of a mixed bunch, and none of them had any reason to stick together once they completed their quest. That's what led into my running solo games, because not a one of them wanted to stop playing their characters.

Within the last couple of years, that ranger paired up with another player, and pretty soon, they'll be pairing up with two, possibly three more, specifically for the City of the Spider Queen module. The other two players that are ready to join the game already have their characters built and their back stories completely fleshed out, which I weaved into the main plot line. It was a lot of work, but I gotta tell ya', one of those players created the most fleshed out character I have ever seen, and he did it without any roleplay to date. I'm still working with the fourth player and helping him develop his character.

Should be very interesting. :)

Wow! Sounds FUN! :)

Say, K, since you're such an experienced DM in regards to solo adventures, would you throw your weight here? :)

It's a project I'd like to see done, and I think that with enough voice, well... Yeah! :D

Dwarven Defender

I have to agree that people think Dwarven Defenders are under-rated.

My primary character is a Dwarven Defender, and nobody accuses me of power-gaming even though I personally think the Dwarven Defender prestige class is one of the more powerful prestige classes ever designed.

Granted, most people complain about the fact that the Dwarven Defender can't move while in his stance, but that's not necessarily a major problem (even without missile weapons).

The lack of movement is a big contrast compared to the usual Barbarian tactic.
