The Two Towers Extended DVD review

My wife is already dreading the purchase. She only wants to watch the extra 40 minutes and not rehash the same movie we just saw again a month ago. Silly woman does not understand.

I'm not waiting for an Ultimate Edition - merely a collected Trilogy boxed set which I'm hoping will simply be the three extended editions collected together. That's all. I'd guess that would be fairly likely to happen, and that's why I'm waiting for it.
I'm curious, Tallarn - very curious:

Are you saying that to get the EE's simply in a box set TOGETHER is worth waiting for years, and not getting and enjoying the EE's NOW?

Do they ever? :D

The Ultimate Edition being, of course, the edition where Ian McKellen sits in front of a black screen and reads the whole trilogy to us for 12 hours straight. Including Appendices. :D

Who are you kidding, I'd be amazed if he could finish FotR in twelve hours!

I dunno, the BBC radio play did a pretty good job in 13. I expect Ian Mckellen could pull it off in 15 or 16, if his voice doesn't give out and the last half of RoTK sounds like it is narrated by Gollum.

Yes, but then you've left parts out and if you've left parts out you didn't really finish it. Hah, I win!

Ok, so I go out and buy my TT Extended version (just the 4 disc set...that gollum statue looks all pasty and icky to me; would have been more interested in statuettes of the two towers of the title, but hey, no one asked me) and pop the first appendices disc (#3) in my DVD player. And lo, nothing happens, except for the player switching back and forth from track 1 to track 2, with nothing but a black screen. Ditto for disc 4. Discs 1 and 2 play fine.

So I take the whole thing back to thse store, and exchange for another one. No luck--same thing happens.

Has anyone else had this problem?? It's not like my DVD player is really old...we got it new last year!

Help! I'm going insane!!!
