I played it twice and never had a conflict between the factions. You have to chose between 2 non-factions at the end but i don't recall this having any effect on the factions
 

I agree, Ive run this once and there should be no conflict about the Renown for LAand the Harpers here. The particular dm must of decided to introduce some conflict of his own.
 

After checking with my peeps yesterday, I have to agree with both of you -- the module itself doesn't require conflict between the factions.

This might also have been a misinterpretation on our part as players -- the DM may have been pointing out that our two factions would pay for the artifact (none of us were thrilled about leaving it with either of the powers presented in the adventure), but we interpreted it as 'only one group can get the artifact'. So maybe not his fault, either -- it was the end of a mod that we were trying to wrap up quickly.

Apologies for jumping to an unwarranted conclusion here.
