I'd like to see Alan Alda's character become Pres.

I agree, but it won't be that way. Hollywood is too libreal to put to a Republican on the screen of a majot TV Show. I think it will be Santos ( is that how it's spelled?) so that the Josh character can stay, they'll bring the blonde assistant back in and maybe Toby as well. I do think it is continueing next season, least I hadn't heard this is the end so I'm going off of that assumption.

The season ends with the Democratic nominee being named at the convention. The hype of who will be the next president is just setting up the beginning of next season.

fine with me, CJ will get canned for the leak of the Space Shuttle thing I imagine. It has been a strong season of the show, it seemed that season 5 was a little weak and I was glad to see it improve over this season.

I think Santos will definately be the next president. I just don't see the show having a GOP president simply because then they'd (somewhat) alienate themselves from the (somewhat) established fan-base for the show. That and it just seems like Jimmy Smits would be more likely to sign on for a long-term run with the show.

I have to admit though, Vinnick has been portrayed as an incredible guy. After his acceptance speech, I can see him becoming the next President, though I hope that doesn't happen. My guess is it will be Santos, and we'll have Josh that way. Donna, I think, will easily (and eagerly, if the last few episodes have been a hint) move to the Santos camp...Santos certainly deserves to win more than Bingo Bob.

As an aside, the next episode is the season finale, when we find out who the Democratic nominee will be. Do we know if they plan to use the gap between this season and next season to just skip over the campaigning and election, or will most of next season be the heading up to that (which I think would be a bad idea, since we've gotten enough of that atmosphere this season)?

I'm a huge Alan Alda fan and I want to see more of him, so I hope he wins. I'd probably vote for Santos, though, although I know he doesn't have a chance to win.

I don't agree at all that Jimmy Smits is the shoo-in for next president. I think the fanbase of the show wants to see smart, strong, charismatic characters, and that as long as that continues, it's not that important whether they're right or left wing. We want to see the president making the tough calls, and doing what's right, even if it's unpopular. The show's had some very strong right wing characters (like John Goodman's character, and Ainsley Hayes). Having more of this won't alienate the fans, and could possibly bring in new viewers who think the show's too far left. Hollywood is fairly predictable, yes, but lately we've seen good television shows not being afraid to take very bold changes in direction (with varying degrees of success). It's been a long time since the show's been this interesting.

But if Alan Alda's character does make it then all the characters from the past 6 years will basically be put aside for maybe the occasional guest appearence. I don't saee them doing a huge recasting of everyone.

I have only seen a few shows. A friend watches it and tells me about it. I told him I bet Jimmy Smits becomes President and Alan Alda is his VP. It won't be the first time in history this happened. I told him that would shake up the show.

Like I said I don't watch it, only hear some info here and there buts thats just my uninformed guess.
