That and it just seems like Jimmy Smits would be more likely to sign on for a long-term run with the show.
Based on what? Smits quit both LALaw and NYPDBlue long before both were done their runs. Alda stuck with MASH for 11 seasons.

Personally, I don't think the writers of the show have ever done a good job scripting Republicans so I'm betting on Smits to win.

I'm surprised producer Aaron Sorkin & NBC didn't use a gimmick marketing plan where you get to phone in your vote to elect the next West Wing POTUS.

Meh. At least Smits does not have to be there for the longest time, just 4 seasons.

Then again, if he decided he want to leave, his character can either be impeached or assasinated out of office, and whoever is the VP can take the leading role.

But aside from those two roles (POTUS and VP), I am more interested in who will fill in for the new White House administration.

Hoynes! Hoynes! He's our man! If he can't do it... :p

How about a Santos/Seaborn ticket now that Doctors Slotz has been cancelled? ;)

As to...

The show's had some very strong right wing characters (like John Goodman's character, and Ainsley Hayes).

Steven Culp's Enterprise character was killed off, even if the series hadn't been cancelled, so he's available, as is Matthew Perry. Some "neutrals" like Marlee Matlin's Josephine 'Joey' Lucas and Mary-Louise Parker's Amelia 'Amy' Gardner could still be regular parts of the show. They've already shown that Ron Silver's Bruno Gianelli is willing to work both sides of the aisle. Steven Root and Patricia Richardson are both amenable enough actors that'd be willing to sign on to a series for four or eight years, and most viewers would be fine having them step up to be watched each week.

I think some people are underestimating the possibility of a Right-West Wing. I think it could go either way and be just as enjoyable a show.

Not with how vindictive Hollywood has been after the last election, I just don't buy it

I'm not sure what that means, or who you think "Hollywood" is, but I think there are plenty of all types of storytellers around. There isn't a single line on which to be on one side or the other. Maybe it is time for some to stop thinking they have all of the answers and to start to raise more questions that may not have clear answers at all?

Well, better to just stop this here before we get political.

Sounds to me like someone's been buying the crap they call news on FOX.

I think Alda's gonna win....and his administration will have to deal with the schism between actual conservatives and the theocratic neocons within the Republican party.
