The winged elf

Does anybody know where I can find attempts to convert the 2nd Edition version of the winged elf to 3E? I think they were called Avriels.

I know I could simply place a celestial template over the existing elf race, but am curious to see if the above was ever done by anybody who was a fan of the 2nd edition elven handbook.

They were called the Avariel in 2E, the Winged Folk (Al Karak Elam) in 1E. There are winged elves in Mongoose's Quintessential Elf, called sky elves. But to be honest, I'm not wild about this version. The 2E Avariel were at -2 Con, +2 Dex. The sky elves in Quintessential Elf are +2 Str and Dex, -4 Int (and +2 ECL). I don't see much reason for their high strength and incredible stupidity.

They were feather-brained.

Taste like chicken too?

From memory they wouldnt go underground much either which made them right pests for adventuring. They where also annoying to DM's...

I met just one wingeld elf in my gaming life: Aerie, from Baldur's Gate II and it was enough to decide i really don't like them :)

There's a 'winged' template in Savage Species, just add it to an elf.

Ah, okay! Of course I could have simply said, "yes your elf has wings", but I've been considering whether to buy Savage Species for other reasons as well. Sounds like they cover the basics. :)

Plus, with Savage Species, Pigs Can Fly.

Of course, the Winged template also gives +4 Dex and +2 Wis, which helps your flight speed, but they eat a two-point level adjustment. It's not bad.
