The Xen'drik Chronicles Chapter 1: Murder at Morgrave

As the loud thud of metal on wood is heard, the guard moves to the stairwell to confront the source of the noise.

Seeing Pohl attempting to batter down the door, he shouts "You! KNock that off and get up here now!"

[sblock=OOC]POhl, you had little success with the door.

And to everyone: Sorry for the lack of updates in the last few days. I'm in the middle of job hunting, so it's been hectic around here lately. I'll do my best to speed thigns along later tonight.[/sblock]

Hearing the voice from above, D'Velderan stops midswing and turns his head. "Hello? What? Well all right, but I think the murdered ran down this way!" Realizing that House Tharashk isn't being paid to find a murderer but was in fact here to get some overdue cash out of the corpse above, Pohl shrugs his shoulders, holsters his warhammer, puts the scrap of cloth he found in his pocket in case he decides to use his dragonmark to find the rest of it, and begins trudging back up the stairs.

"Well at least I can chalk up another bounty successful... Toppe certainly isn't going to be running away anymore. We'll get the monies he owed off his estate easily enough. Chalk another one up to Pohl D'Velderan! I'll be getting a company skycoach at the end of the year for sure!" He smirks to himself, and re-enters the library.

A few minutes pass before the Watch patrol arrives. The six of them cross the library to the murder scene, and the five watchmen ensure everyone is gathered while the Sergeant debriefs the initial watchman on the scene.

Moving to stand before the assembled civilians, the watch sergeant speaks. "Did anyone here catch a glimpse of the murderer? Failing that, does anyone know of any enemies the deceased had, or any other reason that someone could want to kill him?"

Pohl walks into the library from the staircase and hears the sergeant's questions. He strides confidently over to the assembled guard and has no trouble relating what he knows.

"Well, we were hired" he says, while holding out his House Tharashk medallion that hangs around his neck, "to find this man because he owed our client a fair amount of money. So there is that. Although I would question why our client would bother to hire us to track this guy down to collect the money, if they only intended to have him killed." Pohl takes a second to consider what he has just said, and then says almost to himself (although the others can certainly hear) "Of course, what better way to cover over the fact you've hired someone to kill this man than to also hire us to collect the money that is owed. Good way to throw off suspicion now that I think about it."

"I know the man only slightly. He was associated with Professor Toffin, and Professor Toffin does not care for me. But at best Devram only caused me minor annoyances, petty insults, nothing more," Se'ket says calmly.

After waiting and listening to the others assembled give their answers, Reg speaks up. "I did not see the murderer. I don't know who the deceaseds enemies are, nor do I know why someone would want to kill him." Reg pauses, "I was at my post outside the doors when I heard the crash."

"And I was with these men when we heard the commotion" Ethan says, gesturing to the other students who were in the room with him at the beginning.

Pohl glances at the guardsman and raises and eyebrow. "Any further questions, sir? Otherwise I must be getting back to the guildhouse. Now that this man's dead, we've got to find another way to get our money."
