"The Zombie Survival Guide"

Alzrius

The EN World kitten
I just wanted to share news of this book here since this seems like something a lot of EN Worlders would enjoy reading.

Written by Max Brooks and published by Three Rivers Press, "The Zombie Survival Guide" is exactly what the title says: a guide on recognizing, dealing with, and history of, zombie outbreaks/attacks.

Weighing in at 250 pages, this book has descriptions of a zombie, weapons and combat techniques for fighting them, chapters dedicated to maintaining a defensible position, to retreating across terrain for long periods while being pursued by them, and how to actively hunt and destroy them. There's also a chapter on what to do in the event of a "Doomsday" scenario, in which there's a war between zombies and humans, and humans lose. The Appendix has a timeline of recorded zombie attacks.

It's worth noting that the back cover of the book, which is the purview of the publishers, not the author, seems to put on a humorous air, and even contains the genre notation of "humor". The author himself, throughout the text, never takes the subject with anything but total seriousness, and nothing in the book itself suggests that this work is a joke.

The book's back cover says that it is also available as an ebook, but I haven't seen where. The website for the book can be found at www.zombiesurvivalguide.com

The Zombie Hunter's Handbook

I was so inspired by the book that I wrote something for D20:

So you want to hunt zombies, eh?

Zombie hunting is a bit different from other types of hunting. For one, there's nobody to complain if you kill a zombie - or perhaps that's "rekill" a zombie. Nobody likes zombies. Not even other zombies.

Or perhaps it's that zombies ate someone you like. That's fair, we can understand. Killing zombies is definitely a noble task. Unless, of course, someone you like has become a zombie. Then there's a lot of crying and weeping and angst before you blow the zombie's head off.

Or maybe it's that you're really bored and want to shoot people without getting arrested. Zombies are about as close to hunting humanity as you can get. Just make sure everyone knows that it's a zombie's brains you just spattered across your backyard fence.

Or maybe the world just went down the crapper and you're the last person alive. May as well take out a few zombies on the way down, right?

The Zombie Hunter's Handbook is a rules supplement for d20 games. Our professionals at the National Center for Reanimation Control and Prevention (NCRPC) have done all the hard work so you don't have to - chopping, hacking, chainsawing, and blasting the bloody gibbets off of the shambling undead, all to make your life a little easier. If you've got a case of the zombie blues, this book's the cure.

The Zombie Hunter's Handbook is a d20 Fantasy and d20 Modern supplement. It's 60 pages of zombie hunting goodness, including:

* nine new occupations
* a new organization (The National Center for Reanimation Prevention and Control)
* 15 new feats
* lots of stuff to blow zombies up with
* new combat techniques
* six new advanced/prestige classes
* four new spells
* madness and trust rules
* five new FX items
* and of course, lots and lots of zombies (over 20), including a random zombie generator.

Hi Talien! Been a while!

That looks like a great product (in the vein of Van Richten's Guide to the Walking Dead, which I loved). Did you know about this book before I made the post? Or did you manage to find and read the book and then write this new product, all in the span of a day? ;)

Heya bud,

Here's how it evolved.

For my birthday in November, I received the Vampire Hunter's Handbook. It's part of the Field Guides to the Paranormal series. Its PowerPoint-esque illustrations are hysterical.

Then, last Christmas while I was shopping for books for my friends, I went to the humor section to the get the "Worst Case Survival Guide" series. I saw the Zombie Survival Guide and couldn't believe my eyes. I bought it for someone else but ended up keeping it for myself.

So yes, this idea started back in December.

Using the work I did on the Evil Dead Freebie as a template, I then went out and bought the Zombie Movie Encyclopedia (A MUST HAVE for zombie fans). Equipped with those three books, I created the Zombie Hunter's Handbook.

The timing with Dawn of the Dead coming out was a happy coincidence.
