Themed magic

Couple of weeks ago during a game I noticed that the Goblin Wizard of the "enemy" party had a theme to his magic. His Magic Missles were little green vipers, the fireball was tinged in green flame and if you ever got him into melee a Gutsnake spell was used., yeah green snakes were ever where. Now I know there's a feat from Blood & Tome that lets the MU do this, but I always figured if you had the smarts to cast magic in the first place it wouldn't be to hard to add a little color or other effects to the spell without a feat.

So here's a few questions for y'all to ponder besides the "how broken is 3.5 " debate.

1. Is magic themed in your campaign in some way, either by each Scor/Wiz or type of PrC ?

2. Best you've seen ?

3. Does it take a Feat or is it done by reworking the spell by the Wizard in some way ?

I believe the Feat is "Spell Thematics" from Magic of Faerun.

I let casters research unique versions of spells when they first learn them (in the case of Bards and Sorcerers) or when they first scribe them (in the case of Wizards) for free, as long as the scribing is from level-ups. For Wizards who want to do this with spells beyond their free two per level, I require them to do research for the custom spell.

I do not require them to waste a Feat on it.
