There is another thread about 3.5 and what is/was wrong about it. In short... nothing mechanical about the system itself, but rather the reprinting of 3 year old books to fix fairly minor problems nearly wrecking many 3rd party publishers in the process.

No, he has stated it. Just like they stated "we aren't working on 4th edition," "4th edition is a long ways away" & "all big D&D announcements will be made at the D&D eXperience" within the last year.

I like what I see about 4E and will likely be in on it ASAP. I'm still treating my purchases like 4.5 will be out the year after I buy them.

No 4.5E? Sheesh, imagine the errata they'll need after revamping the rules so heavily......

I originally like the 3.5E revision (fixed some messy rules issues from 3.0, in my opinion). But it was let down badly by the 'polymorph' and 'wildshape' errata and the errata by stealth in the leather-bound edition and through the FAQ. (without mentioning the lack of errata in some cases)

I can't see how they cannot release a 4.5E.....

Yep, all they need to say is "no comment" any time a question about a new edition comes up. Take the following example from Gencon 2008

Scott, we know fourth edition was released only over the poast three months and this is the introduction at GenCon, however, rumors abound on the internet that development owrk on fifth edition has begun (peals of laughter from the crowd). Can you categorically deny these rumors right now, one month after the last core rule book for fourth edition was released?

History has proven there is only one way any Wizards representative can ever answer a question like that from now until the end of time and that is simply by stating "no comment". You could ask me the same question right now about thirteenth edition, and I'd give you exactly the same answer.

So what if he did? I won't change a thing if, four years from now, Hasbro says 'we need a new revenue stream from you in fourth quarter'. Plans change, they change all the time and in ways that many times are not under our control. If you take anything - especially stuff said at this early date - as a promise you're just setting yourself up for disappointment.

What would be so bad about compiling an errata sheet every year (say for release at GenCon) and sell hardcopies of it for maybe $2 and have the pdf download on the website. That way you KNOW when the updates will all be compiled together and every year you have teh full ist of updates. I don't think you make an entire new edition (or even a .5 upgrade model) if all you're doing is compiling errata. For that, just have a new pressing of the book and add the errata in as you can.

The beancounters will always win tho sadly.
