Thieves' guild prestige classes

WotC's bitch
What PrCs are available that would suit a member of a thieves' guild? The one in FRCS is only 5 levels, which is a bit short for my liking. There's also the yakuza in OA, which is singularly uninspiring. Are there any others?

Song and Silence and Traps and Treachery both have good rogue presitege classes.

Yeah, I've got that, but there don't seem to be any PrCs that quite fit the concept I've got in mind.

What's your concept? Maybe that will help, otherwise I'm just throwing out random suggestions. :D

Well, as the title says, a thief who's a member of a guild. Someone with contacts who can help them out of a tight spot, maybe useful local knowledge, the ability to recognise fellow guild members, etc.

Hm, the harper scout might make a good basis for a guild thief PrC, actually. A secret society is a secret society, whether it's the Harpers or the mob.

That is a tough one. As you've said the Guide Thief is the only one that is really Guild oriented. Modifying the Harper could work as well. Have you thought about just creating one or modyfying either the Guild Thief or the Harper? I think those are going to be your best bet.

Quintessential Rogue is just out, I haven't seen it but it might have something like what your looking for.

If you are high-level or well-known in the guild, you also might try modifying the Guildmaster from Traps and Treachery into a Guild Lieutenant or something along those lines. You're not the leader, but you have connections.

Also, you might consider becoming a specialist for the guild. You could take 5 levels of Rogue, 5 levels of Guild Thief, and then specialize in an area by taking 10 levels as an Assassin, Dungeon Delver, or other PrC, depending on your specialization.

Some suggestions for specialization (and where they can be found):
Assasin (DMG) - the name says it all.
Trap Master (T&T) - specializes in creating and disarming traps.
Dungeon Delver (S&S) - the quest-taker for the guild. Goes into dungeons to retrieve items for clients.
Spymaster (S&S) - specializes in acquiring information for the guild and other clients.
Roofrunner (T&T) - street-level specialist for one specific city. Can easily find his way around his chosen city when running from the guards or the victims of your latest burglary.
Thief-Acrobat (S&S) - master of getting into hard-to-reach places. Useful for robbing the upper levels of mansions or busting guild members out of the tower jail.
Deepwood Sniper (MotW) - a master of taking out targets from afar. Despite the name, you aren't required to be wilderness-based.

You could use any prestige class you want. Guilds need other members besides the usual thieves. You might even look at taking a figher-based PrC like the Duelist or a ranged attack PrC like the Order of the Bow Initiate.

Just because a prestige class doesn't specifically state that it is only for Thieve's Guild members doesn't mean that they can't be taken by someone who is in a guild.

For a secret society kind of guy, the Guild Thief and Harper Scout PrCs complement each other quite well. The rogue can be a double agent, using the contacts and resources of the thieves' guild in service of the Harpers (not necessarily working against the thieves' guild, although that's also possible). Maybe even vice versa, using Harper secrets and connections to acquire status in the guild. You could also take some levels of Divine Agent to represent some additional affiliation with one of the churches, like the church of Tymora, or the church of Mask, or whoever. The Royal Herald, a spy PrC from Dragon Magazine, might also be worth considering, if you want to have contacts in the nobility.

If you take the Harper Scout (or Royal Herald) class, consider a level or two of Mindbender. The Harper levels will help you meet the requirements of the class, and at 1st level of Mindbender you get unlimited telepathic communication. How cool is that for secret communication?

I believe there are also some theif-ish PrCs in Dragon Magazine. Specifically one in the issue I just got in the mail (so that would be April's - written by Monte Cooke if I remember correctly) and there was one in March or Feb, I think. They were both geared towards rogues working in a theif guild of some kind.

But I could be remembering a little incorrectly as I am working from memory here ...
