Things I had to get through my head

My personal list is:

1) Other people like miniatures and I have to live and let live. It looks like the way the game is going for good.

2) My Dailies will never, ever hit so pick something with good miss results.

3) If I don't actually read the books and just play the game I can handle 4E. I like the game, I really do, but I can't read the books for whatever reason. Not enough fluff for me. I don't read crunch unless I have a character who needs that crunch at that moment. I just read for fluff when not preparing for a certain character / game.

That doesn't surprise me at all. 4E is all about quickly getting you the info you need to play the actual game. If your intrested in good fluff, you can try this or this.

Oh, I'm already a fan of both. It's just that I can't do things as I used to do them. I used to pour over the books looking for interesting tid-bits I could use but now all the powers and bare rules just overwhelm me. I never look at my books unless I'm at the gaming table. And the fluff books like FRCG are so limited in information I doubt I'm going to get any more of them. I'll play the game, but sadly I don't think I'll buy another D&D book, they don't have as much value to me as the other editions do. Plus I already own those.

While I agree with you guys on books like thr 4e PHB, I strongly encourage you to check out Open Grave and Manual of the Planes (and, from what I hear, Draconomicon). Having read the first two, I felt both delivered some of the best fluff of any edition.

I've skimmed Open Grave but maybe I'll take a closer look. I'll admit I like some of the stuff in MotP but then I've already bought that. :) I am waiting for the next Draconomicon but I don't like that the Metallics aren't good any longer. I like alignment and symmetry, I'm a strange duck around here.

I agree, the DM-focused books are the only ones that warrant an actual sit down and read through. The player-focused books are more like spread sheets with all the power blocks, feats, and rituals. I honestly think they are more suited for the PDF format, so they can be searched.
