Things I LIKE about Mongoose

I thought, graphically, the Babylon 5 books so far have been top notch. The episode guides really shine. The pocket guide idea is a great one as well. Now, if I can ever find anyone else to play 'A Call to Arms' I'll be all over that as well.

Heh! It won't last, but...

I have gotten a great deal of mileage out of Book of the Sea and Book of Strongholds & Dynasties.

My current campaign is OGL Steampunk, and I am converting the Open Mass Combat Syestem 2 to handle the needs for my campaign. Of all the things Mongoose has made the OMCS and its variants are what have seen the most use. It is why I picked up Quint. Fighter, I saw the ship to ship OMCS and wanted the land version as well. And I like what the second version has done with the system.

And I like the cynicism that creeps into so many of their books! :]

Is the Bab5 Pocket Guide cleaned up of editing & grammatical errors?

I like the idea behind the pocket guides, provided they straightened out all the errors from the first round of printings...(i.e. Conan pocket guide is essentially the Atlantean edition in small format).

I do not have an opinion on Mongoose as of yet other than what I have read here. True, some of it has not been pleasant but I do applaud the honesty I have seen so far from them, especially on these forums.

The reason I am posting here is that, as someone who has recently decided to pick up the challenge of being a DM, I should be open-minded and see what else is out there other than the big name stuff. So, I have been researching most d20 companies, both fantasy and d20 Modern type books. I do not have a chance to go to a FLGS very often so all I can do is surf the web and check out the reviews here at good ol' ENWorld. So far, other than what seems to be cosmetic issues to me (keep in mind, I have not actually seen a book of theirs in me hands since Borders doesn't usually carry them (they are the closest book store to me at work and home)), the fact comes down to would their books interest me. So, far the OGL series seems quite tasty. So does some of Quint books, even if they are 3.0.

I am gonna continue researching all companies and find the best books for me. But like I said above, it is nice to see an company try so hard to make up for past errors. That counts in my book.

The Babylon 5 line rocks.

The Conan line rocks.

OGL Horror, OGL Cybernet, and OGL Ancients are great.

They are very responsive to questions and concerns.

I love Mongoose. I think they are a great company and proudly by their products.

Contrary to apparent perception, I am also a Mongoose customer. Hopefully that qualifies me to comment freely.

Here's a short list:

1) The rules for Organizations (very clever).

2) Their committment to improvement, which I should have made clearer sooner.

3) Their ability and willingness to expand into new markets (miniatures, etc.)

4) Let's be honest here: Nipples galore.

Yes, given the lack of nipples in WotC's product (other than BoVD), Mongoose is certainly filling a gap in the market. :)

I like Mongoose stuff because when I read it it always makes me want to tweak it (the rules that is, not the nipples) and use it in my own game. So much D&D product I've got I never use. Apart from Slaine I've had at least some use from every Mongoose product; and Slaine has pretty pictures at least.
