Thanks to the Food Network I have heard of it, but never actually seen it in person. Sounds horrid.

You really need a "Never Heard of it" option.

I had a university professor who talked about it some years ago, and wondered (back then) if it was even available anymore.

Guess it is. (Incidentally, he said it tasted "different".)

My direct experience with the stuff is that, frankly, it's bitter and awful. People seem to universally revile it, and yet I think that's why it's still around. Moxie is the short, fat kid with the severe lisp. The one you keep around in your circle of friends (or sodas) because it's easy to mock. In this way, it's sort of like a medieval fool.

Mmm. Moxie. Cough syrup, mixed with battery acid, and then carbonated :)

I think Moxie is still around, especially in New England with its high student population, as an anti-sleep aid. Anyone pulling an all-nighter can use Moxie. The stuff is nasty enough to wake you up, and there is no way you want to fall back asleep with that taste in your mouth. Unless you like Lovecraftian nightmares, I guess...

I think you just stumbled onto the inspiration of the Cthulhu mythos.

Y'know, it wouldn't surprise me if the stuff was something scraped from an elder god.

The hilarious thing about this is that Moxie had been around for 50-ish years (IIRC) before Lovecraft started writing. I'd chalk Moxie-induced nightmares up as an entirely believable source of inspiration. :D

Well, if people are daring, you can get some here. That site also has some other cool things from your childhood you may remember (or want to forget again).

Moxie is better then all the anti-moxie crowd would have one think.

Wikipedia on Moxie

I contend that Wikipedia isn't the stellar, fact based support for "Moxie is better than one would think" position.

The U.S. military should forget mean drill sergeants and start using Moxie.
