I played in a game years ago where we were hired to be the bodyguards for a rock concert. The band's name was "Death's Tender Fingers", and they all worshipped the god of Death, as did my character. Yes, they were thoroughly goth, but were more tongue-in-cheek rather than gloomy.
We were attacked by a fundamentalist religious group who were bound and determined to 'stamp out this corruption and loose morals'. By summoning things to attack the concert. It was a great fight, and a great storyline.
A lot of fun can be had with this kind of sub-plot, so I say go for it!
