This bow would be great if I could build some arrows!

Hey all,

Have I missed it, or is there no Craft DC listed for ammunition (arrows, bolts, bullets)?

Techinically, they are weapons so falling under Craft: Weapon would be logical although I'd be willing to place each type under the same craft as the ranged weapon that propels them. As for DC, what's a good number? It can't be all that high, you don't spend copious amounts of time building just one arrow - lots of fantasy books/movies etc, show the classic woodsy archer make a quiver fulll in very little time, or the simple townsfolk banding together and making a whole bunch for the heroes.. or whatever.

So what would you clock the DC in as for the three types of ammunition? What about bullets for a firearm? The same or different?

The appropriate crafting check for arrows is "fletching." That said, I would personally allow craft(weaponsmithing) to make swords, bows, arrows, bolts, or any other weapon-like object, just because crafting skills suck and there are far too many of them that are far too specific to be useful.

I don't know if there is a specific DC anywhere, but I would say DC 10 for normal arrows and DC 15 for masterwork. That kind of falls in line with "typical" or "high-quality" items. You could make the normal arrow DC 12 if you thought it'd be more like a regular weapon, as opposed to item. The DC 10 option allows it to be made by anyone with a 10 in Int, however, since you can take 10 on crafting checks (when you're not distracted, anyway).

Edit: To answer your OP more specifically, I would use the same rule for bullets, and I agree that you'd make them in batches of 20 (arrows or bullets or whatever). It'd take a week regardless, though, at least according to the RAW.

Edit: No, wait - the rules say if the craft check x the DC (total of 10 x 10 = 100) is double or triple the cost in silver, then you can speed up your process. I think. God these rules are weird. Anyway, I think what it's saying is that if you take 10 on a DC of 10 to make arrows, which are worth 1g (10sp) for 20, then you could do it in 1/10th of a week, or basically about half a day. Now THAT seems reasonable.

Huh. I thought fletching was 3.0.
Well, you may be right, but I thought it was 3.5. I'd still advise using "weaponsmithing" to make any weapon, though, because otherwise it's a huge waste of skill points. (Look at d20 Modern for a better crafting system.)

No argument from me. :D
