This Deeds Not Words idea too silly?

Moe Ronalds

First Post
Okay, I'm going to play in a Deeds Not Words game and I've already made my character, a 1st level human psion minor. I like my character, but he may be ever-so-slightly too cheesy for a serious super hero adventure (of course, i don't know how serious our game is going to be). Here's the gist of it...

Name: THE Psychadelic Egghead (the THE is a big thing with him, it's constantly left off)

Outfit: Worn-out levis, a dirty "hippy-jacket"(the ones with the weird little strips of leather coming from the sleeves) that reaches the ground. He wears a half-mask over his mouth, and rose-collored glasses. He wears a shirt that has a picture of a peace sign except it's egg shaped.

Weapons: Commando Knife and Baseball bat

Desc: Extremely smart and a pretty nice guy. Is disliked at school however (he's only 14) because A: He's younger than everyone else (he skipped 8th, 9th, and 10th grade.) and B: he's been accused of murder in his hometown (he was found innocent, as it was in self-defense.) though no one at his new school really knows the details.

Also, he has a Super Powered Super Pet (Bobo, mild-mannered monkey by day, but by night, he becomes Sonaar!) and a motercycle (which he has to keep hidden away in his closet since: A, it doesn't have any registration, and B: he's too young to drive.)

And, since I'm including everything that could possibly annoy everyone else, he also has the One-liner and Onamatopea (I KNOW I'm spelling that wrong...) feats.

So, if I bring this character to the table, should I be afraid that everyone else is going to be throwing dice in my direction?

Ah! Ah! Loook vat you haff done vit mah bay-OOOO-tee-ful game sys-a-tem!

You have ezpoiled eet vit zees BOY and heez MON-kay!

Actually, weird as this character concept is, I think you'll only be able to judge it in comparison with the other characters at the table. If everyone else is set to re-enact *Watchmen* and you're trying to figure out a power-stretch that turns a banana into a 1d10 damage crit range 16-20 x3 ranged weapon, something is going to have to give. ;)

This dude seems pretty good for a tongue-in-cheek game or a middle-of-the-road game (as far as grittiness level is concerned).

So, my advice is twofold: Fisrt, talk to the GM and find out what the other players have in mind.

Second, create a more deliberately serious backup character, just in case. That way, you'll have one all set to go with no need to waste time, and you'll be enthusiastic about him, if the others want a gritty/serious game.

Cheers!

I've seen sillier things. Yesterday, the martial artist in the group decided to mask himself by doffing his outer shirt--it's October, so it's cool outside--and then throwing his inner shirt over his head to use it like a ski mask.

Go ahead, get that mental picture in your head. I can wait.

Then he proceeds to aid the other PCs (two of whom are also masked, but actually look respectable) in beating the crap out of a crew of six veteran gang-bangers who stole into a courtroom to kill the defendant--a suspected turncoat--before he could spill the beans.

So this guy, who's wearing jeans and has his shirt over his head to act like a ski mask, beats the crap out of well-armed veteran gang-bangers who're dressed to kill (MIB attire and all; these are not your average street punks). He even gets shot a few times but (through Hero Point expenditures) doesn't seem to suffer more than messy, cosmetic flesh wounds. Oh, and there's a girl there sketching the whole thing for her school paper; these get on local TV after the fact, exposing the PC as "The guy with no fashion sense and a wicked one-inch punch."

And then there's Josalito, who somehow never sees any of the magic when its cast, but that's another story. I love my group.

Yay! Two of the Deeds Not Words uber-god-people posted on my thread!!! :D

Also, I made a back up character like you suggested just in case. I dropped the monkey, suped up the bike, changed the name to Psych Out, and changed his outfit to a more matrixy type deal but with a mask instead of sunglasses and a silver 'P' on his chest.

No, he wasn't inspired by the pic of the iconic psion at ALL! :D

Wikid Ogre--- Since I shamelessly kissed your butt in the first sentence of my post, can I send you the stats for whatever he turns out to be when I'm done, and then let you toss them into the trash-can of rejected ideas? ;)

Well Wikid, I hope you're ready...

...because here comes... Psyke-out! Everyone's favorite 14-year old psionic badass!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Psyke-Out

Male Human Minor Psion 1; CR 1; Small-sized Humanoid; Init +2; AC 18 (flatfooted 16); Spd 25’, 100 (run); Hit Dice 1d4+5 (9); BAB +2 (aluminum bat or commando knife) +3 (when throwing commando knife); SV Fort-2, Ref-2, Will-6; AL CG; Str 12, Dex 14, Con 15, Int 20, Wis 18, Cha 10 (I know, I put charisma as my dump stat I’m sorry); DR 4 BDR 4; Hero Points 4; Fame 0/0*, Repuation 0/-10*; Resources 11;

*=Civilian ID

Complications:
Hero’s code; Mercy (his young, idealistic mind keeps him from killing anyone, and the fact that he has taken a life before in self-defense, and it was too horrible to repeat. Though the fact that all 14 year old boys are sick, twisted SOB’s allows him to wound people within reason), foresworn from fire arms (partly out of necessity (minors can’t buy guns) partly out of fear that he’ll blow his own head off), Billy the kid syndrome (tests of intellect), Checkered Past (was attacked by a group of bullies as a boy. He fought back with his Psionic powers, and inadvertently killed one of them. Another, became his…) Nemesis: Villain (one of the boys was warped when Psyke-out used Mental Combat on him, during one round of the combat, the other boy won, which triggered a change in his genetics, unleashing his mind’s true potential…)

Advantages:
Wheels (motorcycle), Super Pet (raven)

Skills:
Drive Motorcycle +9, Concentration +7, Knowledge Psychology +10, Knowledge Math +10, Knowledge Biology +10, Defeat Security +7.5, Computers +7.5, Mental Domination +10, Telepathy +10, Telekinesis +10, Cyrokinesis +10

Feats:

Toughness, Psionic Penetration (Mental Domination), Quiet Psi

Class Abilities
Psion 1: Psionic Powers--- Mindlock Combat, Psionic Bolt; Proficiencies- Edged Weapons, Trauma Weapons, Light Armor, Medium Armor

Power Points; 17

Super Powers; None (has psionic powers though)

Gear: Aluminum Baseball Bat, Commando Dagger, Kevlar Body Suit with a silver ‘P’ insignia, Armored Duster Coat, Motorcycle w/ Smoke Grenade Dispenser, Improved Communications Suite, Self Sealing Tires (front), Traction Tire (front). Nickle Plated leg-cuffs (4), Grappling Hook, ultra light rope, glorified closet Apartment (shares with older cousin (the super-heroine hell’s angel) who demands he pays half-rent.)

Desc: This psychic matrix-clone-batman-wannabe is there when danger strikes, though you may not know it. He stares down his foe, his pure-white eyes crackling with psionic power behind his mask. Within minutes, his foe is on the ground subdued, having finished the most dangerous staring contest they’d ever been in.

Born Albert Hawking, Psyke-Out is perhaps the most intelligent 14 year old you’ll ever meet. He is perhaps a bit moody and cranky, though that is obviously a side effect of the hours he spends each night studying, while idiot vigilantes ride around on motorcycles fighting super-villains. Still, Albert is a nice, sweet, kid—when he gets a good rest. Though he may seem ever so slightly mysterious… Unfortunately, because of his slightly off-beat personality, and almost super-human intelligence, Albert is constantly picked on at school. It of course, doesn’t help that most of his classmates think him a murderer. None of them seem to know the details of the incident however. They simply know that because of him a boy died, even if the judge let him off…

Albert lives at home with his cousin… who seems awfully young for the 19 years she claims to have lived. They both come off as slightly eccentric… Always getting rather… protective, when someone examines that door in the other room… Also, it would seem that they have animals locked up in their rooms… Despite their apartment’s rules… Many times the screech of a monkey or the caw of a raven have been heard briefly before being muffled. Of course, everyone has their little eccentric behaviors. Hawking and his cousin are both perfectly healthy, normal individuals… Aren’t they?

Appearance:
Psyke-Out is dressed in a fairly loose-fitting black body suit with a silver P on the chest. He wears a black belt, tucked into which is his commando dagger. He wears a long, full-length black armored duster, with his aluminum bat slung over his shoulder. Also, as though the level of darkness weren’t high enough already, he also wears black gloves, black boots, and has a black mask over his eyes (like robin). Psyke-out himself is rather thin and gangly with pale skin. His eyes are pure white (though in his civilian form he easily conceals this behind dark glasses), and his hair is kept short.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I certainly hope this will suffice. ^_^. If you want stats for his Cousin or Arch-nemesis just drop me a line.

I like Moe, very cool Original idea. keep coming, i want to see the Arch-Nemisis.....he he he

If you want ill have him added to the archive, if my friend ever gets around to it:mad:

peace

Does Albert call his Uncle Steven whenever he's having trouble with a problem?
Sorry, the last name Hawking was a bit obvious...
