... but what is "spreading around xp" and why does it matter? People mention this all the time and I have no idea what they are talking about.
This is a stupid question...

Clicking the green thumb under a poster's name allows one to give XP and attack a small comment in that person's post. You cannot give XP to the same person without having given XP to other people in between. So when someone mentions spreading xp around they are saying they wanted to give XP to someone but couldn't because they had already given that poster XP recently.

That explains it, I give up xp, but not I'm not a slut about it, so I guess that never came up for me. Thanks
Just because some of us give out xp freely and often doesn't make us a slut !
After all, it's what they did in the 70s!
.... of course, in the 70s, xp was also related to how much gp you got. so getting paid gave you xp which makes it more like a prostitution analogy.... but, still, not necessarily a slut!

and to muddy the waters more, there are those who give with a message of xp for gary. That is a project to give as much XP to E. Gary Gygax as possible.
