First Post
This just popped in my head, so I haven't had a chance to develop it at all, but I wanted to write it down and get it out to other people before I forgot it or lost my nerve.
Here goes:
Transformation Golem- Constructs in Disguise
At the dawn of history, when mighty empires rich with magic fought, golems were common enough to use as troops, legions of them doing battle across spellstruck planes. Of course, golems are powerul, but they lack subtlety. Transformation golems were developed for the purposes of infiltration and concealment. Disguised as wagons, siege weapons, house, towers, or virtually any large construction, transformation golems are undetectable until change to their golem mode and start kickin' butt.
Long after the empires that created them were ground to dust, the golems remain, awaiting the command to transform and fight again.
Aquabots vs. Pyrocons (a transformation golem variant)
In this variant, the complex nature of the transformation golem's contruction makes it "going rogue" much more likely, so much so that all the transformation golems eventually rebel. However, their complex constuction, due to their shifting natures, allows the minds of the elemental spirits inhabiting them to function more normally, meaning that "rogue" transformation golems are insane and rampaging, just no longer obeying the commands oftheir creators.
Normal golems are powered by elemental sprits of Earth. Transformation golems, due to their shifting nature, may be inhabited by spirits from the planes of Earth, Fire, Air, and Water. Once the transformation golems were free, they started organizing themselves upon elemental lines. This, naturally, leads to antagonism between opposed elements, which presents all sorts of opportunities for characters.
