This is my new characater, a gnomish librarian. Help please. (long)

Grover is right, that is very heavy and very short for a gnome...

Have a look at Table 6-6 on pg. 93 in the PHB for random height and weight rules. For a gnome, you would roll 2d4 and add that amount in inches to 3' for height. Then you take the same 2d4 result, and add it to 40 lbs for weight. You wind up with a range of 3'2" and 42lbs to 3'8" and 48lbs. 3' and 70lbs are way off the scale.

Oops!

I will change that to 3'4 and 45 lbs.

This is why I love EN World. Thank you Pazu, I will remember this - particularly number 1 :)

You're very welcome. :)

The exact text of the feat doesn't really add a whole lot, so I don't think you're missing anything by not having seen it. I don't think there are any prereqs besides Bardic Knowledge.

So, are you planning on going the Bard route (or maybe Bard/Wizard multiclassed at 1st level) to get the Bardic Knowledge and Obscure Lore? Somehow, the character description doesn't sound that "bardic" to me...

Here's another suggestion for a homebrewn feat. I think this one is quite elegant and well balanced:

Know-it-all
Prerequisite: at least 3 Knowledge skills
The character gains Bardic Knowledge as a cross-class skill.

Max ranks for cross-class is (lvl+3)/2, so you could start out a little better at Bardic Knowledge than a regular Bard (who gets ranks=lvl automatically), but you would only improve half as fast. Plus this feat would qualify you to take Obscure Lore later on.

What do you think? Think your DM might go for it?

I will start out as Rogue 1. Then wizard. I will take one level of rogue every 3 wizard levels.

It is a modified Rogue with lots of skill points and bardic knowledge as well as lots of skill points. The Wizard class is also a bit tweaked.

Both tweaks are a little underpowered but thats non of my concern.

And... Bardic Knowledge is not a skill, it's a class feature.

Isn't there a feat in Song and silence like jack of all trades. Let's you make Knowledge checks despite there DC?

Maybe I am miss rememberingor thinking of a non WOTC books.

I know. Hence the suggested feat to let you take it as a (cross-class) skill.

So, how are *you* planning to get access to Bardic Knowledge/Obscure Lore?

Here's the info from stormkeep.net:

Jack of All Trades [General]

You have picked up a smattering of even the most obscure skills.

Prerequisite: Character level 8th +

Benefit: See Song and Silence for feat details.

I have changed the classes. I removed something from one class and added something else, in this case I removed a whole lot of stuff and added bardic knowledge.

Piece of cake :)

Okay, here are some new ideas.

First of all, this character is not combat oriented so it's not covered so well by the rules. So I had to modify some classes, including rogue and wizard.

Rogue - 1 level per 3 wizard levels
- Add Bardic Knowledge
- Add knowledge (individual) as class skill
- 12 sp / level
- Remove all combat abilities (no sneak attack, no evasion, BAB and weapon prof. as a commoner)
- Skill mastery or bonus feat every 3rd level (at level 10+ plus they may take greater skill mastery too)

Wizard - 3 levels per 1 rogue level
- Add bardic knowledge
- Add speak language as class skill
- Remove alchemy as class skill
- Remove Scribe Scroll bonus feat
- All spells must be cast with at least V and S components. They can be removed with a silent / still spell feat as usual.

So, most logical is to take the "Rogue" (or "Sage") at first level. The skill will represent his 60 years of book reading. Then I will level up as wizard 2-3 levels, then add one level of rogue and so on.

"Merlin"
Gnome Rogue 1
Region: The Vast
Religion: Deneir

Str 8
Dex 8
Con 8

Wis 16

Knowledge(Tactics) 1
Profession(Chess) 4
Knowledge(Maths) 4
Decipher Script 4

Feats (1)
Obscure Knowledge (+3 Bardic Knowledge, Song & Silence)

Heh.

Before I do this, I would like to know if ther are any simplier way to know all languages than to waste 43 skill points on it? If I took wizard at first level I could take the Comprehend Language spell, but it's 10min / level and you read 1 page per minute in some weird reason...

And no I agree it's not so logical that one can know 50 languages as 1st level, but I see it in a simple way: He learned one language per year. Also, his wizard friends up in the library may also have boosted him magically...

Comments and ideas are welcome.

Sincerely,
Psionicist
