This is taking too long.

I think we need to start holding ENWorld auditions for qualified thieves.

So ENWorlders, start posting your thief resumes in your favorite edition character sheet format. Though there will be no active prejudice from an edition standpoint when evaluating applicants...FYI, AD&D formats have better breakdowns of thieving skill proficiencies in easy to read percentages. (just saying...:p)

I cannot condone such activity nor request that those notes be posted in this thread which I will bookmark.

I see what you did there...;) (...and I approve.)

I also believe that anyone who posts a serious response in this thread should recieve negative XP for not supporting our impatient entitlement!!!!

Honestly, I don't think it's taking long enough. The game really needs good solid tweaking before it is ready for an OPEN playtest. The worst thing WotC could do is publish a "seat of the pants" document for OPEN playtest.

They would get lambasted, and this time for good reason. I even think that it might not be a bad idea to have several rounds of Friends and Family testing before the OPEN Playtest. That way changes can be incorporated, and actually tested.

If that's the case, then WotC is in a no-win situation and has only themselves to blame for announcing D&DN this early. :)

OTOH, 2nd Edition seems to have taken a few years from announcement to release, but communication was a lot slower in those days and the game didn't have three or more distinct and often opposing camps that they've made grand promises of unifying.

I take the opposite view -- one of the tenets of "open source" development is to release early and often. I don't know how long the open playtest should be (as long as it needs to, I guess), but they should begin it as soon as possible.

With a fast release of the open playtest we can finally get some context for the endless polls on the WoTC Web site, and actually provide meaningful answers. At the moment it feels like the polls are just there to keep people engaged, but have no real meaning for actual development.

Yep, but releasing a playtest document that might cause more harm than good is not in their best interest. Just because they put their foot in their mouths once does not mean they should follow it with sticking the other one to the thigh.

Those were different times. They had elegant weapons, for a more civilized age. Then came the internet, the equivalent of "blasters." LOL
