Although the full interview will be coming to you in the coming days, SuperHeidi writes in with some (new) goods regarding Evil Dead 4 and the Evil Dead remake from the interview she had with Sam Raimi and Robert Tapert to promote their upcoming film Boogeyman. Read on for the skinny...

Pur reporter SuperHeidi writes in:

Sam Raimi and Tapert, when asked if they were considering Sean Scott Williams for the part of Ash, looked at each other for a minute and then, together said, "Who is that?" Sam then said, "I don't think I've ever heard of him".

In regards to 'Evil Dead 4 Raimi says, "There will be an Evil Dead 4, and there will ALSO be an Evil Dead Remake. The remake will be produced by Ghost House pictures, (his company with Tapert) and it will star a new cast and a completely new director. The point of Ghost House is that we want to bring new directors (like Takashi Shimizu of "the Grudge" to Hollywood and give them a chnace to make a good horror film."

On WHAT inspired him to allow the remake, Raimi said, "I love the original Dawn of the Dead, and I also really enjoyed the new Dawn of the Dead. I mean, they are both really great horror films. I want to let somebody with a fresh vision bring The Evil Dead to a new generation and a new audience with a different vision..."

Contrary to what Raimi told Mr. D, the remake will be Evil Dead 1 and 2 together, but remade with a higher budget and a new cast and crew.

However, Raimi will be directing and producing Evil Dead 4, which will star Bruce Campbell as ASH and will also have many of the actors from the previous Evil Dead movies. Raimi says that "This is the project I really want to make. The remake can belong to someone else, but part 4 will be a continuation of the original".

Ted and Sam Raimi have begun writing Part 4, and will be developing it for production later this year. Bruce Campbell and Tapert will both be involved...
I'm not sure which idea scares me more...the remake without Bruce or the sequel with him.

I'm afraid it just won't have the same feel now. Some things are just better left be, ya know?

But what if they knock it out of the park??? Ack! Tough call...and who knows if it'll really even happen with the never-ending Spidey phenomenon for Raimi...

Thoughts?

I think this will help bring the older movies to the attention of mainstream audiences. Raimi's current successes likely mean Hollywood budgets and screen time. I don't know if either will live up to the originals, but it should not change your enjoyment of them. It isn't like he is rereleasing the older versions with edits and stopping the sale of all original editions. ;)

I look forward to #4. The remake... eh, whatever, I probably will pass unless fans of the originals give it really positive reviews.

Besides, #2 was pretty much Sam remaking #1, wasn't it? I don't recall much difference in plots, other than lip service.

Liked #1, loved #2, worshipped #3, so I'm all for #4.

Well, it was the more of the same, in terms of "fight the deadites, escape the cabin, everyone else dies", but it wasn't a remake. For some reason, a lot of people seem to think it was. It wasn't. It does start with a few minutes of recapping the first movie, however, the recap is done with just Ash and his Linda (played by a different actress), and isn't exact (e.g. the dialogue is different, since it's just a short recap). Hence, most people seem to think that that makes it somehow the first movie redone, instead of just telling us where it left off.

In regards to a remake...meh. I just can't see anyone doing it like Bruce did. The over-the-top style is perfect, and the special effects are done just badly enough that they push at suspension of disbelief.

Now the fourth movie...that I'm psyched about. :D

Groovy!

From IMDB's website

The Evil Dead (2006)
Plot Summary (ah, duh): Five friends (Ash, Cheryl, Scotty, Shelly and Linda) all decide to spend a nice, quiet weekend at a cabin out in the woods. When they get there, they discover a book made out of flesh and inked in blood. They also find a tape recorder, with a strange man's voice on it. When they play the tape, it begins with the man translating what is written in the strange book. The transelation awakens evil demons which have been resting in the woods, and now, they are ready to attack the people that have awakened them from they're slumber.

With the way Army of Darkness went, I always thought it was perhaps best for a TV show to be a sequel.

I mean, it sort of evolved from a horror movie (the first one) to an action movie (Army of Darkness), with Evil Dead II being sort of a bridge (still more horror, but Ash was turning into the hero-ic type in it).

So you would have Ash every week come across some Deadites or some other sort of paranormal plot, and defeating it with a lot of great one liners and such. Or throw in time travel and you could have Quantum Leap but with more shotgun blasts and fights.

I thought it was like this...

Evil Dead I - Horror
Evil Dead II - Horror Comedy
Army of Darkness - Comedy

(Note, that this is not bad, I've only seen EDII and AoD, but liked the latter much better.)

Bye
Thanee
