Looks like a better week than Hollywood has seen in quite some time. It'll be interesting to see what moves about next week. Are there any big releases coming out next wekk?

There haven't been any half-decent kids movies out since Wallace & Gromit hit the theatres, so I suspect Chicken Little picked up a fair bit of business on that. My expectation is that the movie's going to sink to 10M on the second week, as I'm really not seeing any excitement about the movie.

And then it'll be completely flattened by Harry Potter in two weeks. :)

?

How about Duma, the story of the wild cat being taken back to well, the wild?

How about March of the Penguins?

There've been a few out there but definatly not in any big numbers.

Well, that's the problem. I'd never even heard of Duma, and checking the www.imdb.com page, apparently it was never on more than 42 screens in the US. That's only technically being released in theaters, in my opinion.

March of the Penguins? Well, you're right, that was released, and apparently it was G rated. It had completely slipped from my memory. But I will take solace in my phrasing of 'since Wallace and Grommit hit the theaters', and point out that March of the Penguins came out before W&G, and had declined in box office fairly sharply by the time W&G were released.

So, War of the Penguins earlier this summer, then Wallace and Grommit, and now the screens were fairly clear for the next half-decent childrens movie to make some cash. But I don't think it'll do as well next week.

Speaking of kid's movies, when does Zathura open?

Good call. I hadn't remembered, but according to their website, it's this weekend. So that'll be another reason for the drain from Disney's movie - the older kids will want to go see the space adventure rather than a funny animal movie.
