Thor...Or Just Mjolnir

So, I think it would be funny for a possible game, to randomly throw Beta Ray Bill at my players, have him beat them up, then have them fly away. Obviously this would be for a game where the 'story' isn't so important, or it would be a Planescape or Spelljammer game where I feel you could get away with a little bit of randomness. For those who don't know, Beta Ray Bill is basically as powerful as Thor in Marvel Comics. But how would one stat such a powerful character?

And if I didn't throw such an insane encounter at my players, I'd at least want to have Mjolnir(or Bill's own hammer Stormbreaker) sort of make a cameo as loot they couldn't pick up. How would I stat such a weapon? Yeah I could probably figure it out in the books, but I always like to see what other people come up with. So, whaddaya guys think?

Anyone who is worthy can wield Mjolnir. That's a good adventure seed. Thor sends his hammer to the world for his servant to use to counter a threat. But the wielder isn't the high-level PC champion of Thor but a much lower-level NPC, and the PCs job is to keep the low-level NPC alive to wield the hammer at the right time, and maybe learn a lesson - and if the lesson is learned, then maybe wield the hammer after all. For a very short time!

Agreed, its a good place to start. Like Excalibur (and certain "forces" in DC & Marvel comics' respective universes), Mjolnir chooses its wielders. That's built-in epic storyline.

Have the party witness an immense battle, something clearly too dangerous for them to get involved in. When the dust settles, and they approach the battlefield, there it lies. They try to move it, but cannot. But perhaps they can move what it lies upon...

Then, later, at some crucial moment, a new wielder is chosen...

Marvel got Thor so wrong it hurts. In Norse mythology Thor's hammer was so heavy only he could lift it and it was constantly red hot so he had to wear gauntlets to touch it. When he threw it, it destroyed a huge area, carving out valleys with a single blow. Just picture a crater a over a mile wide. Think A-Bomb here. The very idea that Hulk could out muscle Thor is insulting. Read some actual mythology!

Well, Thor from Marvel isn't Thor from mythology. They're different characters for different mediums.

As for everyone else, those are some pretty good ideas. Thanks.
