We never really used the weapon type / armor type tables.
We DO track consumables during the adventure farily diligently, but assume everything gets refilled to the 'standard' level given on the PC's character sheet when in civilization. This means a PC sheet shows 20 or 40 arrows. The overall amount of stuff carried will result in the total encumbrance, which is kept track of 'sorta'. During a dungeon adventure this number is kept track off, the moment the PC is 'back in town', it is assumed to be replenished again. If need be (usually during flight from too powerful monsters), encumbrance is recalculated if necessary to check speeds of flight...
Spell components are assumed to be there and in adequate supply for prolonged adventuring. Only events such as swimming, getting caught in a fireball blast, getting caught and all equipment confiscated etc. will have impact on the availability and usability of spell components.
