D&D 4E Thoughts About 4E Wanted for Magazine Article

Dr. Lore

First Post
I'm writing an article on 4E for a new gaming magazine (Gaming Fixx), and I'd like to get some gamers' opinions on it. Yes, I know I could scour the boards here and at the Wizards site and similar areas for such opinions, and I have, but we can't of course just print things copied from message boards without permission. I'd like some statements from people willing to go "on the record" and give us permission to print it.

You can either PM me with your thoughts or e-mail them to doctorlore at gmail dot com. [EDIT: Or, better yet, just post them in this thread.]

Thanks in advance for any responses.

Folks,

Given the nature of this post, if you don't want to reveal contact information, please feel free to post your thoughts in this thread, rather than e-mailing Dr. Lore.

For the record:

I've been through this before. Suddenly the game I've been playing for most of a decade is not good enough and concepts that had been humming right along with little or no griping from anyone in my group are being replaced by something new and shiny. What I have heard of the new edition gives me a cautous optimism. Many of my personal issues with the third edition mechanics seem to be getting an overhaul for fourth.

What I find interesting is that the Crew working on fourth edition seem to dislike the feel that third edition gave the game. The reliance on magical items in particular. The fact that my 3.5 edition character sheet actually had to have item slots for magic items and my character has to upgrade his gear every few levels like an MMO to make the system balance is hopefully going away. If I wanted to play World of Warcraft, that's what I'd be doing. Before third edition it never felt like my character "had to" upgrade his gear. Of course he wanted to but the +2 full plate I got at level 10 was still acceptable at level 16. Now my character would be considered grossly underpowered were that his armor at level 16.

The reason I didn't just ask for replies in this thread is because I was unsure about the legal ramifications of using them--many fora stipulate that all posts become the property of the site owners, in which case I couldn't use them for the article, and I wasn't sure that wasn't the case here at EN World. I've since received a message from an administrator implying that asking for replies in the forum would have been acceptable (and indeed preferred--my bad, I guess), so by all means do so if you feel more comfortable with that.

[edited just to fix some bad wording]
