Thoughts on Bargle

Ahh... nostalgia!

:D

Best (and longest) campaign I ever ran - civil war in Karameikos, leading to a Known World War.

Twink level 11 and so much fun!!! Lycanthrope PCs, electrical magic swords, homebrew dual-wielding rules and griffon mounts all-round.

Them's were the days... makes me regret ever becoming a low-fantasy/verisimilitude snob...

Praise the red box. The world that became Mystara introduced me to rpgs. I don't think I've ever run a game, in any system, that didn't steal material from Mystara at one point or another.

oD&D, it's good clean fun and still, for my money, the best way to introduce people to fantasy rpgs.

The thing that defined Bargle for me was the "What others say" quote in the Karameikos box set:
"So twisted, he needs a corkscrew to put on his robes in the morning."

Damn straight. Mystara is the reason I continue to believe in high fantasy.

And, strangely, almost all my homebrews have involved deserts using the same justification that was used for Ylarum.
