I was wondering how often it can be used? Is it just a one use spell or does it stay in effect until the end of the encounter and activates every time the trigger occurs.

It is one-use only.

I think the "melee 2" means it can be used 2 squares away from you, even though you would normally only be able to use a staff on a square adjacent to you.

(do staffs have reach now?!?)

edit: no they don't, just with this power

One time use---but pretty useful nonetheless.

Dude moves within 2 of you and you blast him.

You cast the spell and immediately blast him 5 squares away from you.

If you hit, then he's dazed, meaning he only has whatever movement remaining in his action, then he's done. Sweet!

If you miss, then he gets to complete his movement and can take whatever actions he has left, but from 5 squares away---which is generally helpful for you.

But yeah, it's basically a one time "get the hell away from me, jerk!"

Which, while not horrible, does IMO not measure up to what a wizard daily should be (an encounter-long effect or something that changes the battefield). Which is too bad, cause the flavor of this power is great.

True, but it is an interrupt, which is a spicier type of meatball, no?

No! It's a bland, tastless, crumbly meatball if you ask me.

So what if you stop a guy hitting you once and push him away. He's only going to comeback at you on his next turn. No real gain. OK you could push him into some nasty place if one exists and others could intervene.

I think the power would be much better if you could sustain it.

I dunno, I'd never choose it for a vanilla wizard, but as pointed out, it is a virtual stun. If you are one of those wizards that likes to get in the thick of things to thunderwave or fire shroud, this might come in handy.

If you were building a defender/wizard hybrid or multiclass, this power could put baddies in a tough position. Out of place to attack you, and they are marked by you. . .even on a miss you get a very good result.

Like I said, not for me, but still cool IMO.
