In my campaign, I have a variant class that uses the Bard spellcasting progression. For flavor reasons, I'd like the class to have a version of time-stop as an available spell.
The problem I have here is that the bard-like progression gets its top level (6th) spells at 16th level while the wizard gets his at 17th level. While this is only one level, I still feel this could be a big balance issue, so I'm looking for alternatives.
Most of my ideas so far involve nerfing the spell somewhat, either by reducing the duration to 2 rounds, or by adding a "hangover" effect (i.e. when you snap back to regular time, you're slowed for a round).
Does anyone have any suggestions? Or is this just a very bad idea to start out with.
