Time to Reflect on 3.5 Disappointments

See, I really don't see that scaling. I mean it's better than it was, but after 14th-15th it starts getting strained. So much is save-or-die, and I find myself metagaming excuses not to lead off every big fight by disintegrating the wizard.
Well, I tend to prefer a lower level of magic than any of the editions have assumed, so I use pretty much every variant (from the WotC books) that reigns it in a bit. I'm likewise gifted with a group that seems to prefer martial types of magic types (with one exception, but he likes freaks with templates and ECLs even more than he likes casters), so it works out well.

I'll steer clear of the 3.0/3.5 debate, but I'll note one thing:

I give the above statement a big, hearty "BALONEY". WotC knows quite well the general consumer behavior of its market.

Yes, but it is not their fault we feel compelled to buy the books, but I agree, they knew/hoped we would all go buy new books.

The fights earlier tend to be drama filled, with many occasions where the PCs just barely pull it out. At high levels it's over quick and deadly one way or another.
Heh. Tell that to my players who played a running fight with a 13th level Vampire Monk through the streets of a city. The fight took a couple of hours to finish.
They did, however, manage to kill a trio of Frost Giants and Winter Wolves in two rounds, without taking much damage. So it could go both ways.
