D&D 4E Time to spin out a 4E forum?

right now, it is really annoying to try to carry on a conversation in general that isn't about 4e, because 4e threads bump everything else out of the way. If there is enough sustained traffic on 4e, that may continue, which would be very bad. If General becomes de facto 4e forum, then something will need to be done to give folks who don't want to discuss 4e somewhere to do it.

Split the display of the general page into two sections; 4e and the rest. Each section gets to display the last 15 threads posted to.

That way there will be a finite amount of threads the 4e topics will kick to the curb, and it will be a lot simpler to follow the non-4e talk.

There are problems with that solution, but it might be one line of investigation.

No, it doesn't.

This IS a dominating topic that desrves to drown out the general RPG discussion.
Just because you don't like a topic doesn't mean it should be squelched.

Sometimes, you have to just let the 800-lb. gorilla sit on you a little.

Besides the Mods are gone till Monday!

Well, we've got some mods here, but the admins are pretty much gone.

That is not exactly what I'd call a lightweight solution. While possible (virtually anything on a web page is possible with enough coding), it'd take significant developer work to implement.

And again, we are right now in what is apt to be a momentary spike. As time goes on, we'll look at the traffic, and pick a solution to fit it.

I completely agree. If there's a sustained problem, that would be something to address - especially as a lot of 4E is still completely in the rumor or supposition category. I think that's why it's a difficult thing for me to put my finger on - either way is, in my mind, completely correct. Just when I think I've arrived at an opinion, the other one sounds just as attractive. It's the very definition of ambivalent.

My guess... and it's only a guess ... is that a dedicated forum for 4e news gathering and rumormongering and theorizing will be a definite necessity, particularly for those attempting to gather and display such news on the site's news page. How much the 4e "section" would need to be subdivided is another issue -- maybe split 4e and D&D Insider/DI into two separate but related subforums? Just one man's initial thought...

Yeah, but it isn't like you're without experience in such matters, hm? These things will be discussed at some length when Morrus gets back from GenCon, I am sure...
