Tiny and Huge Spellcasters

Romotre

First Post
Take the spell fireball. If a human casts the spell, it seems normall (ok once you accept a fireball to be normal). But what if a Tiny creature casts the fireball? That would be odd. A little tiny mouse and a giant ball of fire comes out of his little hands. Or what about Huge and up? A fireball from them would be a little tiny candle thing. Am i missing something? The spells in the PHB work for small-large but on either ends, things get stupid. i can't figure out how to make it work.

The spell's area of effect is the same. From a mouse caster, the pea shaped pellet that fires forth would look more like a baseball (I like this image of a fireball reguardless, when in streaking form).

A lightning bolt would likely be lots of them webbed together, or one streak bouncing around, sort've like a cone.

Equally, what about components? Does a mouse need a component that's basicly half his size? Would a huge caster need twice the amount to cast his spell? If he uses regular size, then wouldn't he loose stuff, or be unable to pick it up? (Feathers, spiderweb, little pieces of dust, etc).

But would tha pea shaped pellet be as effective as a human's fireball? Is the dragons or Titan's fireball the same as a mouses? I can imagine all the titans standing around. The fighters like "well my warhammer is so big is does 4d6 now. (to the spellcaster) what about you?" the wizard sighs "alas, my fireball still does 10d6 and never hits to many of em' (other titans) unless they are all packed together like sardines.." then all the fighters laugh at him and start pounding him for 4d6+19 4 times/round....but wait the army of sorceror mice are here to save the day! they're fireballs also do 10d6! but they are numerous! the wizard is saves and goes to live with the mice.

So, by this reasoning, my wizard could polymorph into something huge, and start tossing spells with a larger radius. Cool.

That is correct... According to the PHB, a spell component pouch is one of those items that weigh 1/4th as much when built for a small-sized character.

So huge spellcasters have to get a lot of bat poop for fireballs.

I wonder, do they have to pay more for components that cost money?

Again... The PHB implies "no". My halfling rogue/wizard paid just as much for his spell component pouch as the dwarf wizard, even though mine is one quarter the size/weight.

Besides, it doesn't really matter, since spell component pouches are apparently magical things that continually replenish your supply of bat poop, toenail clippings, bits of twine, scraps of leather and lintballs without you even trying... Come to think of it, wouldn't any average kid on the street have the equivalent of a spell component pouch in his pockets?
