Tips for an Illusionist

The best use of Shadow Evocation and Conjuration is not blasting, but to emulate useful utility spells. This can only help an Illusionist.

Perhaps my experiences are more "kick down the door" fighty-heavy dungeon exploring escapades than your games, but IME figments and images frequently won't solve an imminent problem, without you having failed as an illusionist.

In any case, I really like the ScM and its write-up, especially the notion of someone who's gone slightly insane and no longer can distinguish reality from illusion. My last ScM simply preferred simulation to the real thing. Whether it be a sumptious feast or...use your imagination...

If your character is regularly in situations where evocations or conjurations are required, you should bring an evoker or conjurer instead of having your illusionist limp along until he finally gets the shadow spells.

Being frustrated that your illusionist isn't a good blaster in a blast-heavy milieu is like being mad that the druid makes a mediocre cleric. It's not the intended purpose of the class.

At the risk of repeating myself, there is more to the Shadow line (and Shadowcraft Mage abilities) than just blasting.

You are the only one who seems to think an illusionist can either do illusions or blast.

Get with the program.

Don't get snippy.

And at the risk of repeating myself: "If your character is regularly in situations where evocations or conjurations are required, you should bring an evoker or conjurer instead of having your illusionist limp along until he finally gets the shadow spells."

It's a long time before an illusionist gets access to the shadow spells, and without sacrificing a lot, they're not as good as the "real" spells they're being used to imitate. If those other spells are so important, maybe this is the wrong adventure to bring an illusionist on.

As an alternative, or perhaps a compliment, to Shadowcraft Mage, I quite like the illusionist flavor of the Master Specialist PrC. It's easy to qualify for and makes the illusionist all around better at his job.

That's why we suggested Shadowcraft Mage, to overcome that little problem and add more versatility to the illusionist repertoire.

As a general note, I was aiming for a Loki sort of character...And will most likely multi-class at some point, something that can take advantage of my Illusions.
Suggestions?

Hmmmmmm, fine, secondly, What kind of uses are their for Epic Illusion Spells?
They seem a little redundant with the power of lower level spells.......Unless you want to hide an Army or something.
If anyone else does have anything to say about Multi-Classing him, feel free to speak up about that as well.
