Tips for low level Artificers

Just starting an Eberron campaign and I'm playing a 1st level Artificer. Is it worthwhile to be crafting at this level? Basically scribing scrolls at 1st, brewing potions at 2nd, crafting items at 3rd. My UMD is +9 right now. +2 cha bonus + 4 ranks + 3 from skill focus feat. So any survival tips? Thanks!

If you don't craft anything then your going to waste your craft reserve, remember, according to the ECS, when you level up, you lose whatever craft reserve you had left and gain a new set of points.

In the campaign I'm starting in tonight, I'm playing a 1st-level Artificer. I've already bought most of my essential gear, and I'm debating whether or not to make Scrolls... I've got the feats that reduce the costs, but as it is, I've gotta roll, like, a 13 or higher in order to make a 1st- or 0-level scroll. I don't want my craft reserve to go to waste, but I also don't wanna waste my precious starting money due to average rolls. The way it looks, I don't think I'll be making many.

For the first level or two, find someone to provide the spell prerequisites for you. For example, team with the party cleric and make a scroll of lesser vigor x4, have a wizard hep you with a scroll of shield, etc.

Then you have no chance of failure and can use your free xp.

At third level, make crafting a Circlet of Persuasion your top priority. That ought to help you out a great deal.

Bear in mind that by the FAQ, you can scribe up to six spells onto a single scroll in one day's work, provided their combined price doesn't break the 1,000 gp limit. That can save time at low levels.
