I can bust out the math if you'd like, though I'd feel kinda funny about it in a thread about barbarians. But basically, when your chance of hitting (out of 20) is greater than your average damage, you're better off power attacking. So it's actually not so useful for greatswords as it is for smaller weapons, but it's still good against lightly armored enemies.
