Title of Power Group

Nicodemus

First Post
Having lurked for I don't know how long, I wanted to ask a question about my still in progress campaign world. I've been inspried by books like shannara (The Druids), parts of The Wheel of Time and The Lord Of The Rings.

So my wolrd is to have a small group of people working behind the scenes, keeping track of what happens and "pushing" people to do the right things. Similar to the druids of shannara.

The thing is I need a good name for them. I'd like a name that has som liguistic history or connection (based on old English, Welsh, Gaelic, Latin, German, french, draconic or maybe elven). The meaning could be in the direction of:

Protectors,
Conservers,
"Servers of the land/people"

Or something similar..

Unfortunately, Babelfish is all current languages. No Latin and certainly no Tolkien Elvish :)

The best tool I've found is at www.freelang.net. It has a downloadable app and dictionaries for a bunch of languages including Irish Gaelic and Finnish (which has a nice non-indo-european feel to it for a lot of words). I use this tool in my game constantly and it rocks.

The site www.freedict.com does have Latin (along with a zillion other languages) online. It translates Protector as praesul. So plural would be... Praesuli? Not sure.

There's a better Latin dictionary here:

Praesules. I believe praesul is a 3rd declension noun like Consul.
