I really enjoy Shakespeare, as well. Although, while Hamlet, MacBeth, Othello, Romeo & Juliet may be good (nay, great), he doesn't get any better than Much Ado About Nothing. Now that is fun to read out loud.

So Shakespeare ripped off other people's works. Big deal. Copyright didn't exist then. In fact, it was more or less standard practice to use other works as "inspiration," or re-working them and putting your name on it. If people liked it better, it wasn't your fault.

Anybody here read Titus Andronicus? That thing is awful. Rape, canibalism, blood and guts, dismemberment... It was one of his more popular plays during his lifetime, though.

I don't think anyone (well other than a few uneducated buffoons) has claimed that Shakespeare was totally original. Guess what, it still doesn't make it any less brilliant IMO. If you don't like it, well then I guess you shouldn't get started.
