To James Jacobs: A Growing Problem with Dungeon Magazine

Like I said, web enhancements! Yeah sure not everyone has a computer, but you can always print them up for other people to use.

Usually.

If you're a smart DM.

Additionally, the web-enhancements do not bloat the text of what appears in the actual magazine. Truly, if the information exists, then put it out on the web. The only real cost is the limited layout/formatting that must be done, but I am pretty sure that some standard templates are in use, so this is probably minimal. Web enhancements, being digital, can also be edited/corrected and updated as necessary - as errors are found... not possible in actual print.

all in all, there are multiple good reasons to put out that kind of extra stuff on the web.

Tell you what, Nightfall, if I win the current Powerball that I actually bought some tickets for, we'll talk about me "buying in" with a million. We should know how good or bad things are going to be by the time we burn through that. ;)

Maybe a Dungeoncraft article (or two or three) could focus on altering the adventures using all these desired new elements? How to insert an adventure into a game world, I think, is also a priority for any DM.

Tree,

You got a deal! The day you win the Powerball, is the same time I figure out just how to influence the thoughts of others. ;) Or maybe not.

Smootk,
Plus the fact with web enhancements, the staff of Dungeon can allow us, the grumbling public, a chance to say what we think of what spells to add! ;)

Given the delay in getting out the standard "web enhancements" (current issue is #143, online supplements are only caught up to #141), I think adding anything to that workload is an exercise in futility.

Paizo has made it clear that online material takes a backseat to actual physical & paid for products (especially the magazine). Their schedule is so full they have very little extra time to get the web supplements out, often being several months late with announced supplements. Don't even count on getting close during convention time (when almost every hobby gaming company service turns to molasses). Adding a regular bit to that workload doesn't seem to be something feasible at this time.

I thought that was what doing d20 was about, getting people to buy mags as well as products Klugie. Just saying it's not 100% Paizo's problem to give us what we want.

Also don't forget that the last Dungeon/Dragon d20 issue was roundly criticized for focusing on d20 material (the last Dragon Annual).

Gly,

Yeah but also understand that while it does take a back seat, it does also require a) people willing to do in a timely fashion (something we could do here...) and b) someone willing to help out Paizo when they don't feel they have the time.

Do you see anyone here that's stacked busy time? ;)

From Paizo's comments it's not the production of the actual information. It's the editing (something Paizo isn't going to shunt to a 3rd party), getting into format to put online and actually putting online.

Some of the AoW web enhancements were announced by them to be completed by the authors, but it took them quite a while after that to get online (several months in at least one case).

Of course, I'm sure they wouldn't object to a group working on such web enhancements on their own (from the product when released) and putting it up on their forum. Well, barring some contract from WotC prohibiting that, I suppose.

Gly,

Well maybe that's something we could get James to comment on. Perhaps to help alleviate his worries some how. I mean it's not like this place lacks for good writers and/or editors. ;)

Good point btw about that Dragon annual. *was hoping they'd focus more on Scarred Lands anyway....*
