D&D 5E To make all class/race combinations viable: adding +1 ability bonus from class that you take at your 1st level

I hope you realize that you can still see all of the posts, if you want to, just by browsing the thread in an incognito window? (Or signing out, but then you have to bother signing back in again.)
Of course I am aware I can skirt the ignore feature, but I figure that doing so is, or is meant to be, against the rules - and I'm not one for intentionally breaking rules that I've already agreed to follow.

Is your goal to encourage standard humans/discourage non-humans?
If not then why shouldn't the non-stacking + apply to the standard humans as well? What about variant humans?

If you want everyone to be assured of having a 16, you could just make that the standing house rule.... Everyone starts with 1 16, & x pts to spend on point buy (where x = PB-cost of that 16). Most will use that 16 in the slot you envision as their primary/secondary stat. Some, like me, might put it elsewhere depending upon concept....

Of course you can... but that isn't relevant to my post or why I made it.
I am not "calling out" the people ignoring me. It makes no sense to believe I could even try to do that, considering they are the only people I am sure can't read what I'm saying.

What I am doing is posting so that the forum list stops showing the new unread posts button, so that I don't click on it again in an hour only to find myself briefly wondering if the forum is broken before I realize "No, wait, for some reason that's what this forum does when someone ignoring me posts." The resolution to which comes down to a short list of things, all of which seem to me not to be very likely. (Specifically, that I finally get used to checking not just the titles of threads and the new unread posts button, but also look at the other side of the screen and see who made the last post so I can wait for it to be someone not ignoring me before entering the thread again - or the forum be reprogrammed so that the ignore feature is one-sided instead of hiding someone's posts from me because they don't want to see what I have to say, or so that the ignore function and new unread posts button collaborate with eachother such that posts I can't read don't turn on the new unread posts button).

Also, I appreciate you asking politely for me to stop, but I won't. If you believe my posts break some kind of rule so I'm not allowed to make them, that's what the report button is for.

I'm not replying to see updates - I'm replying so that the thread registers no unread posts, which it won't do if the last post in the thread is one I can't see.
I fully understand what you did - no need to explain. And I'm not asking you to stop replying.

I am asking you nicely to consider stop telling everybody why you reply. Because it directly means you expose the poster above as a person on your ignore list. To everyone (except of course that poster).

And no, I am not accusing you of breaking any rules. I am simply asking you to stop telling the world whom you have chosen to ignore. That might not be against the rules (not here anyway) but it seems the decent thing to (not) do: I'm raised on the policy of "don't discuss your block list".

I am asking you this because I thought there was a chance you might not be aware of the ramifications of your chosen solution to your problem. Not because I think you have broken any rules. Besides, reporting your post would not have provided you with this insight, and so I never contemplated that action.

Regards

(Mods: feel free to move this off-topic sub-thread out of this thread)

Why I reply needs to be stated. I can't rightly hope for a change in the ignore feature or the new unread posts functionality if I don't do what little I can to show that a desire for such change exists.

There is no one on my ignore list. Never has been, and likely never will be.

Ah! If that is your aim, you should probably take it to Meta.

I thought your aim was to get rid of the "new posts" indicator.

There is no one on my ignore list. Never has been, and likely never will be.
Again ah! My bad.

Let me rephrase: please be discreet about letting people (us) know who has put you on their ignore list.

Thank you.

I suppose I hadn't considered there to be a need for discretion since it was publicly stated that I was being put on ignore before it happened, and this forum doesn't usually have posts deleted (though I'd have no clue if that particular post did get deleted or edited, since I can't see it anymore).

There were changes to the ignore list, before it was something for you alone, but now if someone ignores you, that person becomes invisible to you too.

One reason I don't use it anymore -before I would use it for a while when somebody was upsetting me then i would stop ignoring that person once I felt better, not that anybody ever went more than a couple of days on it and most would stay there a couple of hours- nowadays it is a bigger deal so I no longer use it to cope when I feel insulted, degraded or offended and I'm paranoic that someone could have me on theirs.

13th Age (an OGL that came out before 5e) gives +2 to one of two ability scores for race,a nd +2 to one of two ability scores for class - but they can't be the same one. So you'll always have something making you "race X", and you'll always have important ability for your class covered.

I like that a lot. So give class bonuses, but don't allow them to overlap race bonuses.

To me it would be simpler to take the stat boost from the race and put it in the class (limit one stat boost per PC). You just have to give humans an interesting racial ability (maybe they are the exception to the one stat boost per PC and get the stat boost from both classes the first time they multiclass, since "humans are adaptable/do things in new ways").
