Hmm... I know some people would love to take your pdf handouts and build on them to make their own entry to the competition. Change the fonts, layout, etc. What would be the legal issues involved in doing that? To pick an extreme example (not that anyone would be as silly to do this), if someone simply took your pdf files and pasted in their name instead of yours... would that be aviolation of your copyright? If the contents is free, can you copyright a layout?

Although it's not my 'cup of tea', a layout is copyrightable (but a layout has many components, changing the font changes the layout). But that is not really the issue here i think. Most (if not all) people designate only the text of a pdf as OGL. That makes the rest of the document not OGL, as such you can pretty much forget distributing the document without express permission of the publisher. There's also the issue of rights to fonts and images, the original publisher might have them but you might not...
