Having spent a lot of time lurking here and on the WotC boards, I seem to see certain types of problems coming up again and again. However, here in the UK, as a player and DM, I've never seen or heard (firsthand, not over the net) of a DM facing any of these problems.

So to follow on from Morrus' post. Do any of you British DMs out there have a first-hand story of one of these problems with your players?

My DM's seen some munchkinism - from me. I took Sudden Maximise, Mass Fire Shield and the Orb spells from Complete Arcane. And I wanted Assay Resistance but he nerfed it. I was gonna get Avasculate from Libris Mortis but the campaign ended prior to 13th level.

And I argue about rules.

When I spent a couple of months in the UK late last year, I played/ran games for about three groups. I had trouble finding players at first, but that was because North Wales is so spread out as it is. Of those choices, though, the only one I REALL saw was 'Munchkinism', but that even wasn't that bad.

I've honestly not run into Rules Lawyering, Paladin problems, etc here in the US either. So maybe its just me. :)

back in 1983 when i ran a short 3 week game. i encountered all of the above.

having only played online with fellow brits since. all i can say is they are still around.

Umm...

Paladin behaviour (i.e. children slaying, etc.) - I've had players who would happily slay everything in sight. Not while playing LG paladins, though.

Rules Lawyering (e.g. arguing over every last detail) - certainly players argue over rules, I do myself when I'm a player. As GM I give them short thrift. As player I try not to be too obnoxious. :)

Munchkinism (e.g. If I get X from book A and Y from book B...) - Yes, though I restrict game pretty much to core so it stays under control.

Finding Players - not a big problem now (living in London). As a child in Northern Ireland this could be a problem. Actually, even as a student, while I could find players, finding good players could be hard. But since everyine can access the Internet now, anyone living in an urban area should be able to find players.

I don't think any of the above are non-UK problems. There are some problems that do seem largely confined to the US, like hideously fat players taking up half the table space, but I don't think I've seen a hideously fat UK D&Der ever, even at GenConUK - and the portly bearded types there all seemed to be US RPGers who'd flown over for the Cons. I think this is a diet vs exercise thing - people in the UK, even if we eat rubbish, we still walk to get around.

I'm British. Both play and GM...

Find I can rules lawyer if I don't think about it. Much better with that in recent years, mostly after finding out how annoying it is while GMing. I just shut up and speak up if the GM wants an opinion!

As a GM I've seen quite a lot of munchkinism. The group I currently GM for has several 'smackdown' players in it. However, they roleplay well and they'll back off if they're spoiling anyone elses fun. So not problem munchkinism.

Never really had much difficulty finding players. If anything, there are too many players around and some of the groups are a bit unweildy.

Paladin behaviour has not been an issue I've seen.

Smon - have got one properly overweight player in my group (5'6" and a good 25-30 stone), but that's no problem. Just make sure we have a really big chair. I'm pretty sure it comes from never walking any further than out to the car. Not healthy, but doesn't bother them, so doesn't bother me.

Which basically translates to me asking, every 5 minutes, "Al, how does XXXX work?" :)

I would expect people in the UK to have similar problems to the rest of the gaming community (could be interesting to set up polls for other countries). Should be an interesting poll.
