Pathfinder 1E Tome of Horrors: Pathfinder Edition

I'm glad there's discussion.

I've been wondering if Clark was still interested.

Me too.

I still doubt we are going to see a full reprint of the original ToH, as the Paizo Managing Editor pointed out they have already redone a number of ToH creatures and more will be showing up soon.

So at best I suspect we will see a ToH that presents a selection of creatures from ToH 1 to 3, that hasn't already been done by Paizo. Maybe a "The Best of Tome of Horrors" done Pathfinder style.

I would be cool with that.

I could probably be happy with an all new book too.

Plus an index telling us which creatures that have already been done and what product they can be found in.

At the ENnie awards 3 or 4? years ago, one of the Necro bigwigs, (sorry don't remember who) said they were working on Tome 4. As we haven't seen that in 3.5 version yet, I'm guessing those monsters will be part of any Pathfinder book.

Which is cool!

That was Bill, and I believe Casey was on stage with him. Been a few years, but I am pretty sure it was those two.

I'd be all over a PFRPG version of the Tome of Horrors. It's one of my favourite monster books, but the fact that it's 3.0 and the 3.5 version being only in PDF and using an older stat block format reduces usability.

The stat block thing is weird, but it's there. I've trained myself to use the new format exclusively and it's difficult to switch between standards. This may indicate a deep-seated psychological hang-up about something.

Also, the PFRPG ToH must have the flumph.

I love Necromancer Games but think that if Paizo was going to do a Classics Monstrous Manual etc... (featuring those oldies) that they should just do it themselves.

Necromancer games by hook or crook missed the launch date. For a PARTNER, apparently they had no access to the material ahead of time unlike other publishers that had Pathfinder labelled material at the Gen Con convention itself.

In addition, as much as I enjoy Necromancer products, Paizo beats them hands down in terms of graphic design, interior art, color, etc...

As most of the best monsters (all from the first book and many from previous books) are already OGC, I don't see the benefit Paizo would get from waiting for Necromancer do to such a book.

As the guy who actually came up with the title "Tome of Horrors", it pains me to say this, but yeah, I agree with Joe. Necromancer isn't really necessary, truth be told. Hire Scott Greene to write it, sure, but Necromancer just can't really compete with Paizo in terms of quality of presentation.

I beg to differ. Overly rich, intricate, graphic-laden type of presentation does not work always work well with type of book content.
As an owner of original Creature Collection and comparing it against latest Bestiary Preview, I'd like to say that while both layouts have their merits, reading Creature Collection is much faster [1].

Black test on white, clear and correct layout, classic fonts - that's what I would expect from a book with a lot of crunch.

[1] Paizo's stablocks are much better than those of CC, but there is quite a length of time difference between them.

But we've yet to see how the Pathfinder Bestiary looks no?
