Tome of Magic 3.5e

Obscure

First Post
I haven't seen any mention of this on these boards, but it looks like there's going to be a new Tome of Magic coming out in March 2006:

A scooper (Drammettex) at GenCon had this to say about it on the WotC boards:

I picked up a WotC product catalog thru April 2006. There is a D&D supplement being published under the title "Tome of Magic: Pact, Shadow, and True Name Magic." Here's the description.
"Tome of Magic introduces three new magic subsystems for the D&D game. Any or all of these systems can easily be inserted into a campaign. Pact magic gives characters the ability to channel lost souls, harnessing their abilities to gain supernatural powers. Shadow magic draws power from the mysterious Plane of Shadow. True name magic gives characters that learn and properly use the true name of a creature or object immense power over it. All three systems introduce new base classes and spellcasting mechanics. Also included are new feats, prestige classes, magic items, and spells."

Quite possible. My apologies if I started a new thread about old news.

Indeedy. I wrote the chapter on shadow magic. I was originally disappointed not to have gotten pact magic, but after seeing a hint of what Matt Sernett did with it, I have to say I'm glad I wasn't on that chapter. I love what he's done (or at least what little I've seen of what he's done) even more than I like the stuff I created. :)

I suppose there's no hope for a fix to Shadow Conjuration/Evocation spells... I really hate those spells... You mean I can cast weaker versions of lower level spells? I can summon Kleenex golems? Wow, how versatile.

I realize you can't say anything. Damn NDAs. Just venting.

Oooo.... Excellent. I'm really looking forward to shadow magic, especially.

I've got a race IMC, modelled loosely on the Trollborn (from the 2E Viking book) who are exiles from the plane of shadow and are known for still being able to touch shadow. They are especially known for forging weapons from shadow stuff. I was thinking psionics might be a good way to represent them, but a specialized shadow magic system would be perfect (obviously). Having you as the author gives me some comfort that I won't be disappointed in the quality.

Sounds really interesting.

I am most curious about Pact Magic and where WOTC will take it. Hope the feats are better than the ones in Complete Arcane.
